How does the Mane 5 compare to the Mane 6? · 2:54pm Sep 14th, 2021
After seeing more of the promotional material for MLP: A New Generation, my expectations for the series have gone up quite a bit. I'm still holding my breath, but I see the writers are putting in the effort.
Since we're roughly a week away from the movie's release, as of this writing, I'm going to make a few predictions about how the character dynamics of each of the Mane 5 will play out in comparison to the six previous protagonists.
1. Sunny is a mix of Twilight, Rainbow, and Applejack
From what I've seen of her, Sunny has a fusion of several traits of the other ponies: Twilight's leadership abilities, Rainbow's confidence and outgoing nature, and Applejack's down-to-earth hardiness and being an Earth pony.
It is interesting to see that, unlike Twilight, Sunny has always valued friendship between ponies.
2. Izzy is the Pinkie Pie of the group.
Like Pinkie Pie, Izzy seems to be the fun-loving and oblivious one. It is all the more remarkable that she willingly wanders into a community seeking friends when she ought to be aware of the interspecies tensions and how she would not exactly be well received.
3. Hitch has a bit of Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash together
Others have already put this forth, but some theorize that Hitch will be the element of kindness. I think he has elements of Fluttershy's skittishness considering his panic over the "hideous unicorn," but his willingness to dive into danger and rescue and foal, being a sheriff, and his magnanimity toward those weird bunny creatures implies he does have a kind streak to himself.
But I think he might also have Rainbow's recklessness and spaciness: he dramatically rescues the wrong foal, and he fumbles the words of Pipp's song.
4. Pipp is the Rarity of the group
Pipp has many of Rarity's attributes: a love of high culture (which comes from being royalty), seeking celebrity and attention (albeit through music and social media instead of fashion), and makeovers. (Gorgeous!)
Plus, the fact that she apparently replicates flight through wires is a sign of some narcissism for good measure.
5. Zipp Storm is Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle
Zipp is pretty obviously Rainbow Dash, but a love of science might make her Twilight Sparkle and make her more distinct from the blustery and blue pegasus we all know and love.
This new cast feels like its trying to hard to copy the old cast and replace them and that doesn't sit well with me at all.

Considering that the writers for FiM kept rehashing the core characteristics of the Mane 6 onto other species(e.g. Princess Skystar and the Young 6), this isn't all too surprising for me.
