Purgatory is an anomalous event triggered when a person murders or rapes someone for no reason, and is then killed themselves (This doesn’t include unintentional manslaughter or legal homicide, however). This effect will last for about a year, before dissipating on the one year anniversary of the crime. However, we will speak more of the anniversary later

Purgatory is triggered when a person who has murdered or raped someone in cold is killed themselves. It doesn’t seem to matter how they die, as the effect is also triggered by natural causes of death. For example, a convicted rapist and murderer developed a nasty bout of Syphillis, before passing away. He was transported into Purgatory.

Purgatory is an alternate universe, where everything seems dead and empty. Buildings and other such structures are covered in some form of resin, and it seems to spread. Windows, doors, and utilities seem to also mostly be broken, and food is rotten. Water is filled with the resin and can kill or make someone sick if not boiled for about five minutes. Rain water, however, does not have the resin, if collected correctly.

Roaming Purgatory are creatures that Agent Melody has dubbed, ‘Dementors’. They are shadow like beings, almost identical to their HP counterparts. They will chase anyone trapped in Purgatory who steps in their line of sight, chanting phrases, such as, “Repent for your sins.” and “Pay with your blood.”

If a person is caught, the Dementors will [Redacted] resulting in death, and leaving nothing but a withered husk.

Dementors can be weakened by prayers. Religion does not seem to matter, as long as the prayers are genuine. When a Dementor is weakened, they can splashed with water, causing them to disintegrate.

But, if a person can survive Purgatory until the anniversary of their crime, they will be returned to our dimension, and will be changed. They will become nicer, and more friendly. They will usually forget about the past crime. Despite disappearing for a year, no one they know seem to notice. As what seemed like a year to them, will only be a day in our universe. So far, no one has been able to come up with any explanation, but the simplest suggestion is that the universe has a different time structure compared to ours.

Now, for the situation where the person doesn’t die for a year. When the anniversary of their crime comes around, their chance of death increases. And if they die on that day, they’ll be stuck in Purgatory forever.

For now, we’re keeping monitor of any convicted rapist or murderer who have been in a one-day long coma, and has a better personality. To them, they have no idea that they’re dream about the apocalypse, could’ve been just that more real.
