EQD oversensitivness or just me being unable to write? · 10:12pm Dec 5th, 2012
I sent several stories to EQD (for lols mostly). They usually responded that the story is incoherent (well, they have a random tag for a reason!), characters are OOC, punctuation needs some work etc. Nothing extremely harsh.
But today, one of them wrote that this story Luna vs. Grim is almost unreadable (and he didn't mean spacing).., Unreadable? Proofread/edited by 2 natives? It's obvious that my writing won't by anything near the level of a native, but still, "unreadable"?
Uh, I'm confused. I know it's not the best... Do you think it is as bad as says? Or it's just him expecting absolute perfection?
P.S.: Speaking of proofreaders, editors. I have a story that needs editing and my usual editor is too busy to do it. Write me, if you want to edit it. (And I need just a normal proofreader, not necessarily an EQD-level one (nitpickers are welcomed though ;P))

You're taking EQD criticism to heart?![:rainbowderp:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/rainbowderp.png)
Yeah just don't![:rainbowlaugh:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/rainbowlaugh.png)
I honestly did as best as I could with that, and I'm certain not a brony did, too. Not that I can say I'm an expert or anything, but to say it's unreadable definitely caught me off guard.
It really was a good story; just blame EQD. Seriously, they are very strict on the stories they chose, so don't blame yourself.
EqD seems to be filled with some elitist attitude as if every one of them was Prince Blueblood's sister-cousin-lover!
I have seen some seriously good stories denied for the most trivial reasons, and I have seen some seriously BORING stories posted there.
I haven't read Luna vs. Grim, but I don't think you're really up to the quality bar of Equestria Daily in general. It's not about the language barrier. It's more that your writing isn't... literary enough. The stories you write don't take the world and ideas seriously. Your characters are OOC, your stories are incoherent, and there's not a lot of depth to the events. Look at the recommendations on my user page. The majority of them have been featured on EqD. Take a look at Dresden Fillies too. That's a crossover that's been well recieved. Check out My Little Alicorn, that's a random-tagged fic that got an EqD feature. It's not incoherent at all.

I believe you corrected enough mistakes to make it readable.
Don't worry, I don't blame you at all. The question in this blog is rather a rhetorical one

that would explain why they have a "non-fiction" mode.
who would want to read boring stories? (I never read stories they publish. I check only comics on Eqd).

I don't write I am. But who can forbid me from posting my stories to them? :

But thanks for suggestions. I will check them later. Atm I'm not writing anything new anyway.

Define "quality".
Seriously! Too many forget that the MOST important part of a story IS the story being told!
I can give you an example right now of a story that would never pass EqD's standards, but is a VERY gripping tale non-the-less. (not one of mine as of yet, mind you, but I do hope that one of my works gets to be that good)

The essential quality of a story is in the ideas underlying it. The essence of mediocrity is good editing on a bad idea. Meanwhile, a bad idea can shine through a layer of grammatical grime.
I am not a good writer myself. My contributions to this site are in editing other people's fics. When I try to write a story, it ends up in that 'well-edited, but uninspired' zone of mediocrity. I haven't bothered posting anything yet.
Ew, EqD.![:pinkiesick:](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/pinkiesick.png)
577508 It's not so much blaming, it's just that you had not one, but two proofreaders to check over everything. That's mainly why I question their reason as to why they believed it was "unreadable". *shrugs*
