Season 2 Mini Episode 8 Up! (Aug 16th) · 10:11pm Aug 18th, 2021

Hello once more, my lovely readers. Thank you very much for your patience in awaiting this one.

Since we knew this one would take a little while, we decided to use it as a form of recapping in addition to telling its own little story. This one had several rewrites involved, including a complete rework from top to bottom at one point. Writing the parents isn’t as easy when their favorite daughters aren’t around.

Little bit of spoilers.

T’Lona’s early pon farr is going to play into a later plot development, but it will be a little while before we see how. Don’t worry though, she’s not dying. I’m not going to kill off T’Lona; she matters a lot.

To help with the recap, we threw in two messages. I’m hoping it comes through clearly in the writing, but in case it does not: the first message was sent many days prior to the one that Cadeneza sent. And Cadeneza will be reprimanded for using a high priority channel for such a low-priority (so to speak) message.

This also gets into a little bit of world building I’m doing with Trek, because Trek has been very inconsistent when it comes to transmission delays. Sometimes you can talk face to face real time halfway across the galaxy, other times you have to wait hours or days to send a message not too far away.

Thus my answer to this is twofold: first, the Federation has a substantial network of subspace beacons, kind of like a galactic extranet. Within this network, realtime talk is possible and easy, so long as sufficient bandwidth is available. Outside this network, messages have to bounce off various distant relays which can take far longer.

The Dominion War, being a war, means most of the bandwidth being used for communication is for military and wartime purposes. Thus all live messaging is saved for battle tactics or other such things, while civilians and messages not dealing with the war or orders regarding it are considered low priority.

Hence Cadeneza made a pretty big goof there.

Also I freely admit that some of the relationship between Amina and T’Lona is based upon me and my husband, particularly certain aspects re being respective of sensitivities.

Anyways, feel free to ask if you have any other questions, and see you next Monday my dear lovely readers for the next full episode!

Epsilon Nine subspace relay station...

Argus Array subspace radiotelescope platform... (Argus also carries the subspace relays for communications. Real-time communication is enabled out to 24 LY from the array.)

So yes, if the needed communication assets are available, real time is eminently possible. And yes, during wartime, Fleet messaging is on priority.

Unless you have an alien communication chain available from the Pathfinder Project, a Harry Kim, a Seven of Nine, and a Reginald Barclay; then you can create a communication system, called "The Watson Project" that involves bouncing the signal off a quantum singularity and the Mutara Interdimensional Deep Space Array System as the relay. Then, you can get 30,000 LY out of it for eleven minutes...

I wonder if all the exposure to magic is responsible for T'lona... condition. Maybe somehow it's the key to her finding Equestria. 🤔
