In the odd event that My Little Pony: A New Generation will be considered good... · 10:09pm Jul 28th, 2021

How much do you guys want to bet that it will actually be shit but the critics on Rotten Tomatoes will give it a Fresh rating anyway because "diversity and inclusion" or some other bullshit like that?

After all, Chibnall-era Doctor Who is considered shit (a few diamonds in the rough notwithstanding) and yet it gets a Fresh rating on RT.

Why, yes. I am counting on G5 to be shit because satirizing and riffing on it will be beneficial for me.

Oops, I unveiled my master plan.

I don't expect it to be shit, but I just don't expect it to live up to anything G4 accomplished. In all rights, G4 was an absolute phenomenon. You aren't gonna get that type of early 2010s vibe now

The one thing that frequently frustrates me regarding the upcoming series is the fact that people seem so intent on considering as part of the same universe as G4, but yet...that hardly seems to be the case at all. Particularly because of how different the animation-style is from both FiM’s Adobe Flash style and the Toon Boom Harmony style of the 2017 film and “Rainbow Roadtrip”; as welll as numerous holes in the concept.

Uh...wasn't it confirmed to be part of the same universe? Pretty sure the official synopsis reads as follows:

In the new movie, the pony world of Equestria has lost its magic. (GASP!) Friendship and Harmony have been replaced by paranoia and mistrust, and Ponies now live separated by species. Sunny – a feisty and idealistic young Earth Pony – is convinced there’s still hope for this divided world… but her slightly misguided and often hilarious efforts to change hearts and minds have led to her being branded a misfit. When Sunny befriends a lost Unicorn named Izzy, who wanders innocently into the Earth Pony town of Maretime Bay, the town has had enough. Izzy and Sunny must embark on an epic adventure that will include a daring jewel heist, outrageous conspiracy theories, elaborate musical numbers, and the world’s cutest flying Pomeranian. Their adventures will take them to faraway lands and force them to challenge the status quo by facing their fears and making new friends out of old enemies. The world Sunny has dreamed of her entire life could finally become a reality as Sunny and her newfound friends fight to prove that even LITTLE ponies can make a BIG difference.

BTW, here's the source for the synopsis:

And this article explicitly states it's in the same universe:

https://kidscreen.com/2021/01/29/my-little-pony-rides-high-with-new-cp/

“With the movie, we started development and made the decision to expand the world of My Little Pony, rather than starting from scratch with a total brand reinvention,” Thompson says. “We found ourselves with this whole decade of storytelling and really rich lore, and it felt wrong to walk away from all of that.”

And something tells me the references to G4 are not just going to be limited to an easter egg:

As for the numerous holes in the concept...well...it's not the first time MLP contradicted itself (unfortunately).

But hey. If the movie does suck, what's stopping you from making a 'In Which A New Generation Never Happened' group?

And Kamp Koral. That's canon to SpongeBob despite it retconning SpongeBob and Sandy to knowing each other since they were kids even though, in the actual series, SpongeBob met Sandy for the first time in Tea at the Treedome. You know, the third episode of the entire series!

Sponge on the Run was different. Despite being computer-animated, the visual style was much more faithful to the show and film predecessors.

While I haven’t seen “Kamp Koral”, one thing I learned about it was that the show and Sponge on the Run are actually part of an alternate universe. It was even confirmed within the show itself.
