Names for the Pokémon · 12:33am Jun 2nd, 2021
Heya! For the ones who worry, I'm working on the next chapter of UME. However, I think that I need your help guys for a very simple thing that I'm very bad at: giving names.
I just can't decide what I will name Apple Bloom's Bulbasaur and Scootaloo's Charmander, without forgetting Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie's respective starters (I will let you guess who will have which one). And to them, I must add the potential Pokémon that the girls will capture on their way to Viridian City and to Pewter City. So some Rattata, Pidgey, Spearow, Caterpie, Weedle, and whatever other Pokémon are encountered on these roads, and this may include Route 22 and potentially Pokémon normally fished from the waters.
You can guess that I never bothered to name my Pokémon because of that (and also because I'm too lazy to bother), so I guess that I will leave the naming to professionals, and I mean you, dear readers who certainly have much better skills at naming than me.
So, give me your best! And since there will certainly be several exemplaries of Rattata, Pidgey, and others, then it doesn't matter if I end up with more than one name for a Pokémon.
Unless you know the existence of some Pokémon name generator website? I wouldn't be surprised if such a website exist...
I think Apple Bloom's Bulbasaur could be named Ivy, and Scootaloo could name her Charmander Torch.
Caterpie could be named Webster (because it knows String Shot), and when it evolves into Butterfree, it's name could be changed to Monarch or some other real-life butterfly species. Or it could be called something like Flutter or Nectar.
The hyperlink below should be very helpful with over 1300 nicknames for Pokémon. It also provides a brief reason for the name. For example, for a comedic choice of nickname you might name a Pokémon Aspirin because this Pokémon is always giving you a headache.
The site lists its nicknames by category with the nickname Aspirin being at the beginning of the funny nicknames category. They even have lists of names for the various Pokémon types like fire, water, and grass types. For example, In the fire type category there is the name Hephaestus based on the Greek god of fire. Also some of the names could be easily ponified like changing Edward Scissorshands to Edward Scissorhooves for the Pokémon Scyther or rather for Scyther‘s evolved form.
I hope the hyperlink proves to be helpful.

Thank you for these names! They are very good! And I'm already seeing how proud the Charmander will be when he will learn that Torch is the name of the previous Dragon Lord.

Thank you very much! I can already see that this link will be my best friend along with Bulbapedia every time that Sweetie will be in the Pokémon World.

Oh, I wasn't even thinking of the Dragon Lord! I always named my Charmander Torch because of its flaming tail.
