If I had the energy to write, I would be forging ahead. I've cleared a lot of my mental obstacles, but hard work is still just that. Anyway, let's see if I can make anything of this director's cut. I feel like there should be a generic term for the sort of content that content creators put out to tread water, whereas all their followers have gathered because of a particular type of content that actually requires work.
The Changeling Child: I've had this character for a while now. Boldish actually talked me out of introducing him twelve chapters earlier. I'm glad he did, because the character is much more fun than the generic operative I had planned. I thought it also helped to stir up the status quo a bit at the classroom. I didn't want to mess up my perfect 5x5 grid of desks. So putting him on the ceiling was the solution to that. I like the implied conversations that had to be had to get to that point.
As I filled out my class roster, I've wondered about the earlier scenes. I know I'd probably write the first singing scene differently. Speaking of which, I'm rather happy with my insurance policy with the music scenes. If they're bad I can always say that they're foals and they're still learning. I've even thought it out so far as to say the CMC are really good for their age.
Seeing how I've got the seamless transitions going at this point, there is a decision I made early in this regard. My biggest blunder has to have been the earth pony years. The original motivation was to let River keep some friends at school even starting school all over. Another plan was for filly River Glade transfer to Ponyville to escape scrutiny. This one should've stood out as a wrong choice seeing how much I invested in the Canterlot class. I was even ready to say that the CMC were around ten in earth pony years so it worked out. There would be a lower elementary and an upper elementary. That's a distinction that I never laid out, but I might keep it around.
