I'll cut to the case for this one. After all, you don't not read this blog to hear self-deprecating rambling.
For the first point, I had intended a camp for the foals for quite a long time. The adults' activities was just a bonus gag.
Next up, I thought I'd explain what I was thinking about the fight sequence. I realize it smacked of an anime, but writing it made me realize how much influence anime has on anything that uses special abilities. Considering Japanese games are so influential, there's almost no shelter I can take. It was supposed to be a one-off extended fight sequence. It was also meant to be a swan song for River glorifying battle.
I'll end with probably the most conspicuous incidental character: Trusty Stead. This guy was supposed to be very important to the plot. He did accomplish his role as an initiator. He wasn't the best pony for the job, but it's his mark--filling in for others in anything and everything, even if he wasn't great. He filled in for the tour guide (who I might have given two different names at one point), and... that was it. I had a running gag planned where Trusty would be everywhere, filling in. That was something that just never got lift off the launch pad. Star was just the better character; and Trusty just wasn't smart enough. I figured organizing the trips for the friendship students would be within his abilities.
Iv'e not read the new chapter yet but that all sounds interesting. It still kinda bugs me Cheerilee made their summer camp mandatory. I mean what if some of the family had vacations planned in advance then she suddenly sprang it up on em? I'd be like "Nope sorry tech not going, already have plans" XD. Though I get why you had her do it, if you didn't River would have just said "nope" and not gone.
Heh honestly I have been imaging some unnamed classmates in her class doing just that actually (much to her annoyance) taking off for vacations with their family's and refusing to do the whole camp thing
