Northern Ireland-Concluding Thoughts · 8:16pm Apr 16th, 2021
The riots in the north recently have been very alarming, especially if you have relatives living there. I do not begrudge Unionists their sense of British identity. And I understand their anger. The UK taxing you and then putting up a border between your nation and their own can't be interpreted as anything but an insult to your sense of identity and belonging. However, setting things on fire and attacking those you perceive to be enemies of your community (but are really being treated as poorly as you are) is not helpful.
Here's hoping that everyone can conduct themselves in a peaceful manner. If that means the only way to resolve the issue is a United Ireland, I support that. If the residents of Northern Ireland decide to remain with the UK despite their poor treatment, I also support that so long as no one is attacked, harassed, belittled or discriminated against because that's how you get armed paramilitaries defending themselves and NO ONE wants to go back to The Troubles so, y'know, let's not.
Here's to unity, peace and fellowship in my country and in all countries.
Ever onward, one day at a time.
Stay safe.
Riots over in Ireland, too, huh? Stay safe, and best of luck to your homeland.

*Sigh.* I'm not sure why partition exists. Everyone in the whole wide world thinks Ireland and Northern Ireland are the same and...yeah, I guess we kind of *are.*
But thanks for the kind words.

You know perfectly why partition exists: to create generations of insoluble political problems that weaken the partitioned country and direct all politics within it in the direction of the partition.
It works spectacularly well.

Yep.
