I'm having a debate with someone on this. Anyone who's been following my most recent story knows it deals with some very dark themes (suicide and child murder namely). If you saw the most recent chapter, you know that the real intention is for My OCs' son to fight the murderer in hoof-to-hoof combat. I know it's uncomfortable, and that's the whole point. Think about some of your favorite superheroes like batman, superman, Goku, etc. Batman saw his parents murdered in front of him. Superman and Goku had their home planets blown up by tyrants. What was on those planets? Children. So, what I want you guys to do for me is think about this on a more critical level and ask yourselves these questions:
1. Would heroes like batman and superman still fight bad guys if their friends and families were still alive?
2. Did my OCs force their son into it, or was it his choice? If the latter, why?
3. What are these characters' philosophies? How do they view life and the world around them?
4. How much more likely would the kid be to win with support from his friends and family? Would they be able to intervene?
5. Lastly, how does a fictional story stack up compared to reality? Children are killed in wars, which people should be outraged by. They're picked off by predators, which people ARE outraged by (rightfully so, obviously). Childhood leukemia is eerily common, which is why researchers are looking for cures as we speak. There's accidents that sometimes involve kids. You see where I'm going with this? The real world is unpredictable, and sometimes, it's scary. If you could reverse the roles, wouldn't you? People have told me they were as young as four when they first asked themselves why they were born. You can believe that life has no inherent meaning while realizing it has value. This life is all we know we're gonna get. Shouldn't we try to fight for it? Anyway, that's enough rambling from me for now. I'll let you guys decide for yourselves how to look at it. Peace.
