Blink Again - Minor Updates · 7:32am Feb 18th, 2021
Howdy everyone, I'm just posting this to let y'all know that I have made a few changes to Blink Again. Most of these are minor, and if you've already read a modified chapter you definitely don't need to go back and reread it, but I have the changes listed out below regardless. I hope my going back and changing details within the story doesn't bother anyone.
Anyway, patch notes time:
- Fixed a handful of missing words and typos spread out across chapters 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, and 12. These are just the things I happened to come across while reading parts of these chapters for other reasons though, so there are likely more issues that I missed. Feel free to PM me or let me know in the comments if you spot any such issues. I'll get to fixing them as soon as I can.
- Modified Twi and Light's interactions in chapter 2 so that Twi is just slightly less warm and more socially awkward around Light in keeping with how her character is depicted for the rest of the story. Her hugging Light has been replaced with an awkward shoulder pat and she no longer returns the hug Light gives her in the beginning. Otherwise, she remains mostly friendly at that point in time.
- I recently reread "Not The First" in search of an exact timeline of how that story matches up with canon events. In it, I found that Flash Notion references events that take place in Season 6, Episodes 8, 9, 10, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, and 21. I have decided to continue this timeline within my own story and thus have changed the description of recent happenings given by Rarity in chapter 7 to reflect this. Now, instead of her referencing Pinkie Pie being with Cheese Sandwich (an event that wouldn't happen until much later in canon) she describes the events of Season 7, Episode 2: "All Bottled Up." For additional notes on how this story relates to canon, go to the end of this blog post.
- Added a line in chapter 8 where Twi says that her makeshift bone cave was previously collapsed and that she had to dig it back out. This is to maintain consistency with "Not The First," where it is mentioned as having been intentionally collapsed at the beginning of a chapter called "Not Going To Stop." I must have missed this line the first time reading through, but at least I've found some way to address it now, even if only in a single, brief line from Twi.
- Made some additions to the dialogue between Fluttershy and Light in chapter 12. This way, the problem Fluttershy was having is better alluded to and Light goes from concerned to angry in a slightly more believable way.
- I was taught to write ellipses according to the Chicago Style (word . . . word). Shortly after the publishing of this blog post, I will be going through and changing all of my ellipses to the style more commonly employed on the internet (word... word). This is both because it takes up less space and is therefore less annoying when there's lots of them, and because it means that the ellipses won't be cut off if they just so happen to coincide with the end of a line.
- Added a few quick references to what they drink within the pocket dimension.
- EDIT: I also added a section to chapter 2 in which Light describes the current situation on the outside to Twi. These would be the events of S6E25, S6E26, and S7E1. This is probably the largest addition here, as they go back and forth for a bit over it.
Warning: I have a new computer and its keyboard has a tendency to input two spaces when hitting the space bar. If you think you see doubled up spaces anywhere, please let me know so I can fix them. This is not the same as an entire line where the spacing is wider than it should be, as that is a formatting issue within the site. If anyone knows how to prevent that particular issue from happening though, I'd love to hear it.
Relation to Canon: Okay, so as I said, Rarity tells Light about the events of S7E2. So that you all know, this means that Light teleports very shortly after the events of the previous episode, "Celestial Advice." There is a problem with this though. Twilight teleports far more often than I can possibly account for and, in fact, does so at least twice if not more during the events of S7E1. This means that I'm going to have to officially break from canon when it comes to when and how often she teleports. I wish I could use canon teleports like Flash Notion did (seriously, kudos to him for using all six of Twilight's teleports at the beginning of S6E21), but it just isn't going to be feasible for my story. Blink Again may also have more significant deviations from canon as it comes to a close, but I will try to maintain some consistency if possible.
