More news on G5 and the upcoming movie! · 9:00pm Jan 29th, 2021

So this new article from Kidscreen gave us a heap of info on the upcoming MLP movie, as well as G5.

The movie will be CG-animated with a new cast and shifting the themes to be about inclusion and diversity to appeal to Gen Alpha kids and represent their peer groups, with the movie's main character being an activist seeking to make the pony world a better place. It's nice to hear this new show is trying to appeal to the modern generation of kids.

And apparently, because it felt "wrong" to start from scratch and walk away from all that "really rich lore", the creators have decided that G5 will still take place in Equestria but in the future. Honestly I'm a little bummed because I really hoping for an entirely new take on My Little Pony rather than G5 being a sequel series. I guess that explains the Mane Six appearing in that leaked animatic, but I just hope this show doesn't disappear up its own ass trying to pander to the lore-obsessed nutjobs in the brony fandom like in FiM's last few seasons.

But still, it's nice to finally have a little MLP info in these times.

Ahh, I see. Well, if nothing else, it's good to be informed. ^_^

Hoping that they can pull this off!

Oh no, they're actually gonna make G5 "woke" :facehoof::raritycry::raritydespair:

And I'm saying this as a liberal!

On one hand, I'm definitely intrigued by that vague outline. A mite disappointed that G5 isn't going to have its own identity, perhaps, but it's an understandable decision for the higher-ups to make. I can roll with it!

On the other hand... Just going off that extremely brief teaser, G5 sounds like it might have all the right ingredients to be a fandom-implosion-inducing disaster. "Inclusion and diversity"? Perfectly fine sentiments, don't get me wrong, but the go-woke-go-brokists are gonna have an absolute field day with 'em if Hasbro botches this.

Really hoping the new creative team pulls G5 off. I really don't want this fandom to go the route of Star Wars'.

All words aside, I'm trying to stay somewhat optimistic for now. Pardon my doomerisms.

I'm staying optimistic too. If you think about it, G4 was all about inclusion and diversity, but it did such a good job handling that theme IMO. So I'm gonna stay hopeful that G5 handles it well too.

Agreed. More likely than not, I'm probably going to enjoy G5.

Unfortunately, given my recent track record in that regard, that's a statement that scares the living sh*t out of me.
(In case you didn't notice, all three of those words are separate links.)

Yeah, in that case I will most probably quit. I really can't tolerate that even in a show for kids I'm being told how to be politicaly correct.
