What to do, what to do... · 3:01pm Jan 13th, 2021
I'm sure everyone has an opinion on what I should write next as we go forward into the New Year. On the one wing, I just left Firefly off on a massive cliffhanger after introducing a major new character, who will become the face of the Equestrian Army during the war. On the other, Midnight Rising remains to be updated, and I know my newest followers are anxious for news about when I'll be continuing the story of Feathered Heart.
I'll address the latter first. Before I can start writing for Feathered Heart, I need to reacquaint myself with it, as it's been a few years since I last read it. What I would LOVE to be able to do is edit/update the existing chapters as the means to refamiliarize myself with the story, and in the process more closely integrate it with Firefly and another story I wrote in verse. I am not, however, allowed to do that on site--I can neither update someone else's chapters, nor repost them to a separate story, even altered. Such are the rules, and I will obey them.
So what I'm going to settle on is this: I will edit the chapters off-site, on Google Docs, and then link readers to them. I will also let folks know when updated chapters are available, and give a brief overview of any notable additions or updates.
I emphasize that reading the updated chapters will NOT be necessary for reading the eventual continuation, but updating the chapters is a tool for me to be able to *write* the continuation--to immerse myself in all the various characters and plot points and then figure out how to take them forward. Work on chapter updates will start soon and I'll try to have at least one or two done per week going forward, around my other writing work.
Speaking of which: it wouldn't be right to just leave Firefly off on a cliffhanger after releasing the first new chapter in four months. So, I will immediately begin writing the next one. I'll aim to have it written, preread, and released in two weekends. After that, hopefully my M-rated batteries will be recharged enough that I can come back to work on Midnight Rising for at least a couple chapters.
Last but not least... I am going to renew my call for funding, folks. But since Patreon appears to be a bust for me, I've come up with a new option:
This is a basically a tip jar website where you can make one-time donations in $5 increments that go directly to my PayPal account, unlike Patreon, which requires membership and monthly pledges. So if you appreciate my picking up Feathered Heart or otherwise just like my stuff--and especially my generally steady stream of new chapter releases--please consider dropping a donation there. There's no obligation, and you don't have to make an account. A little money would be both appreciated, and motivating when I spend 40 hours over three days turning out stuff like this:
More updates on the next Firefly chapter as we get closer, and I will attempt to have the first couple edited chapters of Feathered Heart available soon.
I am looking forward to more chapters of Firefly. I am wondering if Firefly herself will at one point perform her signature stunt: the Double Inside-out Loop.
I'd really appreciate it if we had a continuation for Firefly, but that's also me being a bit selfish...
Regardless, thanks for the updates!
I'm voting for Firefly.
I am also voting for Firefly!
