The Eyes of Vinyl Scratch! · 2:36am Nov 27th, 2012
Yeah, I know not a normal title for one of my blog entries. Now before you wonder, no this isn't the title of my newly planned Vinly Scratch fic. It was done to get your attention because after I give you a brief update on my Redheart fic, I want to conduct a little survey, your feedback will be a big help, trust me!
Okay, I've still got a few more scenes to do before my Redheart fic, "In the Hooves of an Angel" will be finished. Looks like it won't be quite as long as I suspected, but it will still be the longest one-short I've ever written! Right now I have 12,160 words. The first love/clop scene is finished and turned out quite well, despite the fact that after writing it, I was half expecting to have to all but re-write it. I gotta stop being my own worst critic. lol But it turned out nicely, as did the cuddle scene that followed. Now I need to do another short cuddle/sweet scene, then I have the last pivotal story scene, followed by the second love/clop scene, which I was actually considering pulling. But after reviewing what's to come, I found there is a need for it, and it's not just to have two clop scenes. I'm actually going to be doing this scene a little different than any I've done before. You'll have to see it to believe it and that's all I'm going to say. There were some other things I had thought of adding to this but it's already too long as it is, so I'm just going with what needs told to complete this piece. Though I am sure most of you will enjoy it. =D
Okay, now on to the second part of this update. While I was searching for inspirational music to associate with Nurse Redheart, I came across a piano piece form one of my many favorite animes, and well, as I listened to it, it got my wheels turning, and for some reason I started thinking about Vinyl Scratch. What can I say, ever since I read a fic called "The Beat Stream" staring Vinyl (currently featured in my top favorites on my user page), I've been in denial of the fact that I've sorta got a crush on her. Anyway, keeping that in mind, she's been bugging me for weeks about writing a fic starring her. Well, the more I thought about the piano piece, the more I thought, hmm, I just might have an idea for a fic about Vinyl. I've got a very endearing story in the works that will be one of my 2nd-person human x pony fics, pairing you with Vinyl Scratch. I still need to choose a title and complete my rough summary, so I have something to share with all of you.
Now I did get a little off topic, but I wanted to let you know a little bit about why I'm planning a Vinyl Scratch fic in the first place. Now the reason why I mentioned her eyes, well there's been plenty of debate about which color her eyes should be and which color most of her fans like. I'm well aware that in "A Canterlot Wedding, Part 2" we see that her eyes are magenta, as far as Cannon is concerned. Yet before that, many fan works of her gave Vinyl red eyes. Now as far as I'm concerned, I like her with either color. I think magenta is a lovely cool color that goes with her white, and flatters her mane, yet I am quite fond of seeing her sporting red eyes. There is something almost haunting about her when she has red eyes. Anyway, I'm wondering, which eye color do all of you like? A few of my fans have told me already what their preference is. So I'd like it, if the rest of you would share your preference with me.
That's all for this update. Hopefully I'll be done with my Redheart fic sometime this week. And I'm also hoping to have the title and summary of my Vinyl Scratch fic ready for the next update. I was going to do my Rainbow Dash fic next, but since my Redheart fic is taking a little longer than expected, I want to boost Vinyl's fic up a notch. The main reason for this change is that her story is going to be taking place around Hearth's Warming Day, so I want it posted before the end of December. Think of it as my pony Christmas Fic if you will. I'll be sure to share more details of this fic during my next major update. Count on it.

Megneta seems more endearing. Probably in no small part to the increase of romantic Vinyl of late (in reponse to thefinale), in contrast to the 'hyped up whore' that too many fics go with.
However, if you were to go red, there would be some major ground for romantic reinforcement in regards my bias. Which would be pleasent.

I like both colors. Red has a dark mystery appeal to it.
I've always been a canon person, so I vote for magenta. But if red wins, it won't bother me.
I prefer the red eyes, the magenta eyes clash with her signature shades slightly when she rests them on her head. also I RARELY see any fan art of her without her red eyes so the red is almost natural for her.

You could try to do something that mixes both colors. Like a dark shade of pink.

Her coat is an off-white, semi beige/yellowish.

Also,Vinyl's eye color is red. But not the bright red you see in most pictures,but a more pale and gentle red that is often confused with magenta. Look at this picture and you will understand.

These ponies are all so darn loveable. Still as far as our Xeno skit is concerned, Vinyl is your mare, so have no fear. Besides, you should feel flattered (maybe) that I think so highly of her.

I spent a while working on it. As for her eyes, I see the effect. I'm planning on going with Red, but not like an evil red or a blood red. Just the red that's used in most of her cute/beautiful pics. I'm sure you know the ones. You shared one with me in my last blog.

Hmm... Usually when I even see a hint of magenta on Vinyl, I go berserk. Yet your elegance in wording has provided me a new POV on the subject. But as for the topic at hand?
Personally, I am biased for fan given Red eyes. Though her color is ultimately up to you, nobody should force the choice on you. There are a couple things I can thing of that might work.
Giving Vinyl both magenta and red eyes. It might be tricky to write for visual descriptions when describing the mare, especially in passionate scenes, but it will help please both sides of the fences.
Option 2: Don't mention her eye color.... At all... Probably not the best choice, but it is also the least likely to incur somepony's wrath.
Option 3: Take the third option out and give Vinyl a completely unrelated eye color, like blue or yellow for instance... Honestly, I don't even know what will happen if you go with this choice... Anything goes... But I am curious on how brown eyes would look on a pony, considering that I have never seen a set of brown eyes on anypony presented in the show or in fanfiction. That, and the fact that most of the human population is stuck with the dull, brown eyes, like myself. Surely a mare with brown eyes would indeed stand out where you don't even see the color brown all that often.... Surely perhaps the one with the most potential and randomness to match that of Pinkie Pie.
Option 4: Go with her classical blind form. You should have read by now a few fics that have her as a blind mare.... Probably the most difficult to pull off.
Option 5: ... Vinyl trolls the living shit out of us, breaking through the fourth wall. We can only watch in exasperation as she swaps eye color at random. Did I mention that she takes considerable pleasure in doing this?

544611 Redheart mainly because Vinyl, although I like the way she looks she is associated with something I was never partial to which is partying. I've had nothing but bad experiences with that type of lifestyle and since most depict her as a drug user ect. I usually don't read Vinyl Scratch fics. That being said however, I'm sure your take on it will be different so we will see.

You know, you make some very interesting points. And I must say, you are almost a borderline mind-reader. I remember when Vinyl's eye color was a topic of discussion with my best friend...I actually said to him, "What if the reason her eyes are sometimes red and sometimes magenta is because she's wearing contacts? And actually she has brown eyes and just uses the contacts to mess with people?" Not that I think Vinyl Scratch is the trolling sort of pony. But that is a take I have considered, and you are right, even pale colored Daring Do has colorful eyes, just like Rainbow Dash. I've yet to see a brown-eyed pony. Like you I have the same eye color, brown. All I know is i have a lot to think about. But I'm sure I'll come up with something fun for Vinyl to make my story enjoyable. But I like how you think, considering fans' likes of both eye colors. Maybe I can appeal to them all, in a way.

So, you just may enjoy my take on Vinyl.
The reason I won't be revealing too much with the summary of my Vinyl Scratch fic is simply because, I've already got plans to show case a side of her many fans may not even consider. Just what don't we know about her? Is she really only a fan of the mixing board, and only loves DJ'ing and partying? Does she really do drugs or is that all biased speculation? What will she be like when she's your lover, and you see the real Vinyl, when she lowers her guard and casts off her emotional armor? I'm not sure why, but I seem to really enjoy coming up with different sides to the ponies we think we all know quite well. Just as I have planned for my Rainbow Dash fic and have already been exploring in my Celestia fic.

I've got two ideas for her eyes, one I originally discussed with my best friend, when we were talking about her eye color, the other is to go with Red, since they are the most popular, but like you said, not a very strong red. Okay enough fooling around,time to get serious. I know understand that the situation is not just black or white with the eye color. I think i know a way you can make everypony happy. Now if memory serves i remember a female character in a story that had put a spell on her hair,which changed color from time to time. Now imagine that Vinyl would be using such a spell! You can either set it as random (her color changes with no pourpose and is just for her amusement) or is influenced by her emotions,her eye color changing depending on what she is feeling. I think this sounds better then just simple eye contacts no?
I read the Redheart skit and....so many emotions! I really enjoyed it! I promise tomorrow i will expand greatly on this story,but right now i need sleep ZzzzzZZ . I hope my suggestion helps you.

Funny you should mention Pinkie Pie. While she is my least favorite of the mane six and pretty much least favorite pony in general, I can't help but like her anyway, and I am very partial to the idea of doing a fic about her. Someone else a few blogs back asked me about doing one, and I already have an idea that will challenge the Pinkie we know and love as "you" learn more about her as her lover. I just remembered having detailed notes about such a fic, which is in the form of a summary. I don't have a title for it yet, but sometimes the summary is the hardest part!

My Celestia fic and so many others popped up and have crammed my schedule. But I am certainly planning one of my 2nd-person human x pony fics with her. Right as I was reading your note on Vinyl's eyes, I started having the same conclusion. Perhaps her mood effects her eye color or it's just a random thing. Hmmm, of what if, she uses magic to change her eyes, because she's embarrassed by her real eye color. It's not contacts, but since she's a unicorn she could use magic as a front.
I'll be looking foreward to your more detailed response to my Redheart story.

You aren't alone, if you've been reading my comments back to others. Another had a similar thought about Vinyl's eyes. Though I'm still not sure what I should do. I have too many ideas now. I may just keep it simple rather than make this fic all about her eyes, which my story for it has no real plans for documenting the roots of her eye color. Still, my wheels are turning with ideas.
