So I got to see the eclipse yesterday...

My family went on an all-day pilgrimage through the state to get to a good spot to watch it. Really cool to see happen. I'm gonna be in my 40's when it happens again. Maybe I'll have some actually published original stories out by then xD

Brief Thoughts On: "Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous" · 11:49pm Oct 2nd, 2020

So I just finished watching Netflix's Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.

Y'know, when this was first announced, I was pretty skeptical, even more so when the more cartoony-looking human designs were revealed. I thought for sure it was going to be some kiddy cash-in.

Was this preconceived assessment correct?

Nope! Boy, was I wrong! This show is great! I'll admit, it took an episode or two for it to kick in, but once things begin escalating–and obvious spoiler alert, this takes place during the events of Jurassic World, and Indominus Rex herself makes at least two big appearances–it gets really, really good. The action and the suspense is amazing for this kind of show; the last time I was this on the edge of my seat had to have been a the last theater movie I went to. The characters may seem like cardboard cutouts of teenage character tropes, but by the end of it they've all been developed really well, and some of those tropes are even deconstructed in a sense over the course of the series.

Oh, and before anyone asks? Yes, people do die. None of the teen characters, but at least three adults are killed by the I-Rex. We don't actually see it–the kids do–but we sure as all get-out hear it. So nothing graphic, but no matter how "kiddie" this thing is, it's still a part of the Jurassic franchise. The thing's built on dinosaurs eating people.

So yeah. Camp Cretaceous is great. I'm giving it my seal of approval and my recommendation.

I might actually give this a watch.

I was a bit skeptical as well but I may actually give it another look

I'm glad to hear it. And it's good that they went there with being bold and actually putting people in peril - apparently Spielberg himself told the makers to not kiddify things, and I'm very glad he did so.

(I just wish that some of the reviews I've read wouldn't get so hung up on that. "Oh God, it's so much darker than I thought! Can kids really handle this!?" Either that or they use it as a springboard to further trash Jurassic World. :facehoof:)

They've clearly never seen a single bit of the DCAU.

These things go in cycles. Adventure-based shows happen, and eventually someone goes "oh think of the children!" and networks purge the violence and action from their children's entertainment for a while, and then it comes back, and the cycle repeats all over again.

Kids are a fair bit more capable than a number of adults seem to give them credit for.

My only worry is that if a second or third season of Camp Cretaceous is made that takes place in parallel to the events of Fallen Kingdom, the main cast will kick the bucket either by the volcano or Mills’ mercenaries.

Nah. The way it is right now Isla Nublar's only just been abandoned. I highly doubt they'll stay there for that long.

I guess that's logical. But my wonder is if they will interact and meet the main characters from Jurassic Park and Jurassic World (with their original actors and actresses reprising their roles)?
