October Tea Thoughts - Bite-Sized Pieces · 11:54am Oct 1st, 2020
Well, with the weather finally starting to get cooler, I've taken to drinking tea again and along with that little caffeine boost come a few realizations that managed to escape me before.
Today's little spark of random wisdom: Pace yourself.
If you're an author looking to write a story longer than a few thousand words, take your time. After my third rewrite of the first 20,000 words of the Thorn of Equestria, I'm wishing wholeheartedly that I'd been more patient with myself and not been in such a rush to crank out chapters. I'd get to the end of each chapter feeling as though it could have been so much better but lacked the motivation to go back and do so, so of course instead of tweaking small things here and there, I'd just rewrite the whole blasted thing.
Take things in bite-sized chunks. If you're writing a big story, what has worked best for me so far are consolidating some of the more major points of the story into a single document. Then, in that same document, add a brief outline for the story, then smaller outlines for each chapter (this makes the process of referencing material later soooo much easier).
SO, I realize that everypony has a different way of doing things, and I'm certainly not saying there's not a better way to make the arduous but rewarding journey of writing your own story, but it definitely works for me. Just my two cents!
May the wind always rise under your wings,
