One of the best writing tips.

As a dear friend might have pointed out to me, WHENEVER SOMEONE READS (OR IS READING) YOUR STORY, AND BECAUSE OF THEIR REACTION, YOU FEEL THE NEED TO EXPLAIN THAT THE THING THEY ARE REACTING TO, THEY ARE REACTING TO WRONG, AND REALLY IT WORKS, OR IT MAKES SENSE FOR SUCH AND SUCH REASON, OR WHATEVER?

THE FACT THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO CONVINCE THEM THAT IT WORKS MEANS THAT IT ISN'T BUCKING WORKING! At least it isn't working for that particular reader, at that particular time, in that particular situation.
