So this is just a real quick thing I wanted to discuss with some of you all.
I have recently been writing the next chapter that has a few sentences in a different language. What I want to ask is, how would you all be comfortable reading it?
Should I write the sentence in English first and the other next to it?
I haven't really thought of how to have another language added to certain parts.
If you can, show me some examples of implementing two languages in a chapter that is readable to viewers.
You should right the other language first then in parentheses in inglish.
I believe putting the original or other language first and then the english translation later in brackets looks ok and it's still clear it is a translation. For example:
Dies ist ein Beispielsatz. (This is an example sentence.)
Or you could do it like this:
Das ist ein weiteres Beispiel.
(This is another example.)
In the end I think it is a thing of personal preference.
I have also seen stories with no translations and as long as Google translate can put it into english I can accept the mild inconvenience of opening another tab.
if google translate does not work then put a English version in small brackets by it, unless its explained later in the chapter or novel.
In story "strardust" were used quiet the big part of text in German. And in later chapter were presented same text but in English.
You could post the same text in English version, in moment when character reflects on it. It worked there because first time it was used for character so she could reflect on her world view. The second time for reader to provide context and to give a chance to reader reflect on their view of the character. Though it would work better if text is more 4 strokes in length. If it really short do it in () just below.
