Why the heck do so many people like the genderbend DDLC content?

I mean, I have nothing against Rule 63, it’s just... why? What makes it superior to the original?

Um...I dunno...what's DDLC?

5347726
I was afraid you’d ask that.

I’d say to search up Let’s Plays but um...

5347727
Oh, it's a video game?

5347728
It’s a visual novel.

Psychological horror.

5347733
Well, I may not know the full context of the media, but maybe the answer is that with genderbends there's more room for exploration?

5347735
I mean, with genderbends you can add in little bits of characterization or switch some things around, like if you genderbend a girl who likes rollerblading, maybe her male counterpart could like skateboarding instead. Or a jock-like boy could become a tomboy girl. There's a lot of possibilities you can create just from swapping the gender around

5347739
Just offering a suggestion for why people might like the genderbend of that media

5347740
I just don’t get why some people consider it better than the original.

5347742
Oh. Not sure there's an answer for that, at least, one I can think of

5347743
I mean, did I mention DDLC is a harem?

5347745
You did not. That makes things more interesting...

5347751
Eh, nevermind. I was going to say that because of the genderbending the ratios would be messed up but it would probably end up being nearly the same

5347752
Well in a harem, the “protagonist” is like, the only guy in a cast filled with sexy females.

5347753
Yeah, so now the "protagonist" would be one girl surrounded by a lot of guys

5347757
Yeah, I can see what you mean...

5347762
About why so many people like the genderbent version

5347764
No, I just mean I understand why it's a question

5347764
I'd answer at least a guys perspective but I'm not sure you wanna know it as it's a nsfw thing

5347828
Guys would like it for the nsfw implications of the girl being into the guys using her for stress relief in a adult way

5347836
That could be a reason why guys like the gender bent ones more

5347838
I’m not talking about just guys. I’m talking about either girls, or people in general.

5347844
Ah Oki no clue then unless the find the guys cute

I think, while the girls are really cute and have interesting stories associated with them.
Guys having similar problem, suicidal thoughts, self harm, domestic familial issues, coming out of the 'mouths' of vulnerable young teenage males hits in a different way.
I think it is due in part with how 'Men Should be Strong' trope that just ...exists in our society.
Men should keep their problems to themselves.
Men should be able to handle their own problems.
Men should tough it out.
Seeing Men break down, confess that there is something wrong, look to you for support has a completely different feel than the opposite.
As...I don't know, as a society, it IS a trope that a female will either ask for help with problems or tough it out, and if they DO ask for help it is seen as what should happen.
If a man breaks down they are seen as inferior... maybe that's just how I see it narrativly.

5348030
To add, I'm not saying that Standard DDLC is NOT great or anything like that.
What those girls go through HITS me horribly, but them being gender bent hits in that as I said; men really don't tell you their problems, and when they do it is like they opened them selves so intimately ... I don't have the right diction to explain my thought process soundly
Heh sorry

5348031
Oh and P.S. P.S.
I am not saying a Gender Bent DDLC would be superior.
I just saw that in your question.
Both versions would have the same effect.
A young girl or a young boy doing what Sayori does... would be equally heartbreaking.

5348037
This may sound bizarre, but...

Do you think it’s just the girls on the internet were complaining how the protagonist of DDLC was a guy?

5348037
Sorry for the number of 'edit' and 'additions', but It might be more heart breaking for me cause something similar did happen to me.
A while ago a friend of mine Did confess to me and stated I wanted to just be friends with them.
I was no where NEAR as close as the Main character was to Sayori, but I had to assure them that him being gay was not a problem, and it was just that I was not.
I could not even imagine if my friend decided to just...

5348039
Even though the MC ... I think is a guy.
I always tried to ignore that and made them Gender Neutral.
I mean guys are not the only people who play the game, but I can see that now that you say it...
Wait IS there a version that has male characters?
I thought you were talking about fan-art.

5348043
Of course he’s a guy. Remember that shot of him hugging Sayori?

5348044
Oh yeah I remember, but it really wan't until that point that I found out about the MC's gender.
So canonically the MC is a dude, but I just eh on that info.
Besides that one scene, which i did not see on my first play-through, all other scenes are gender neutral...
BUT I do understand that the majority do see the MC as a dude...

5348053
I mean, I don’t mind having MC as a guy like, at all.

Girl power and feminism are cool, but don’t guys need their time to shine as a main character?

5348061
I mean...what?
Okay maybe i'm missing some major context here, but .... haven't guys always been the main characters in games.../everything?
So I will just stick with Video games...Unless we are just talking about Visual Novels; then i have no context to MC genders.
So like...since Video Games have been a thing most every Main Character has been a man.
I am not saying to start a counter revolution to Demand Triple A Devs to have Women be MC, but ...
Wait lets start with

don’t guys need their time to shine as a main character?

Where is this coming from?

As stated above, men have been the MC since media has been around.

5348221
I already knew that. I meant like, they should get their turn once in a while.

5348262
What do you mean?
Should it not be that women should get the chance to star in the role of MC more often because there are not that many female MC's as there are male MC's?
