A Quick Question to Readers: Story Samples! · 9:03pm Aug 5th, 2020

Hello, my readers!

First off, a great thank you to everyone who's read my stories. The warm reception is much appreciated, and y'all have convinced me to continue publishing works here! A special thank you to the incredible people of the Quills & Sofas Speedwriting group for giving me a home to start from and a launch pad off of which I could share my stories to you all.

Onto my quick question:

I will be publishing another contest winner very soon - The Gambit is a story about loss, love, and the consequences of magic. Once you've read it through, I wanted to ask: would anyone be interested in a longfic/series about that short story's premise? Here's a sample of what I'm thinking of:

Card Counter is one part of the dynamic duo responsible for one of the most powerful forms of magic Equestria has ever seen - probability manipulation. But when his long-lost partner re-emerges with a cosmic mission in hoof, Card Counter's new protege, Luster Dawn, must fight an uphill battle against all odds (something she's too used to) and stop a rogue pony from becoming the universe's next fundamental concept.

Interested? Do tell me in the comments, because otherwise, I might just keep The Gambit as a short story.

With that out of the way, my second short question: I have another sci-fi longfic and I'm looking to gauge any interest. Again, here's a sample (this time, however, it's a... tad bit longer):

Entry 19

Journal-

We’re done! We’re done, we’re done, we’re done!

Well, no, not really - we’re not done just yet. This is it, though. No more prototypes. This is our final iteration. The finalized matrices have been installed, and the leyline manipulation systems are fully operational. I’ve now focused [Ms. Sunset Shimmer's] Element of Sorcery in the central apparatus, and our tests have passed all relevant checklists. The Elementstone can definitely handle the load of the Chronomanipulation spell matrices. Well, if it couldn’t, I don’t think any artifact could’ve, and that would be really, really bad for the whole experiment, and that would mean terrible things for-

...

At this rate, we might not have the time to finish the final check on the energy core systems. But… let’s not talk about that. This is our chance to protect Equestria. If all goes well, we’ll be famous. We’ll be able to make sure our beautiful world is safe and sound. Aaand, we’ll get to do more research with more support! It’ll all be great. But first - gotta make sure tomorrow goes without a hitch.

See you after the experiment.

  Sincerely,
. Twilight Sparkle

Dear Journal,

One machine. One pony.

(Near) infinite realities to explore.

When everything in your world is under threat, what would you do to protect it? My answer is simple - break the laws of physics, and peek through alternate realities. The Chronosphere. My creation.

At least, that's what I thought. So many things... have changed.

What have I done?

Ta-dah. Do tell me if any of you are particularly interested in reading either of these, because I could really use the "audience gauging" thing. DM me if you would like to see fuller, more complete versions of either! (Well, just for Chronoventurer, honestly, because I haven't started on The Fatal Gambit yet.)

The second one definitely piques my interest more. Luster Dawn is basically an OC, with how little characterization she got, which means a Gambit sequel will be harder to write well. On top of that, I have trouble suspending my disbelief regarding anything set in this universe that shirks the role of fate. Because destiny has tangible effects in Equestria, like cutie marks.
