I sometimes pretend I have a posting schedule other than "sometime soon."

    Personal life disruption

Hey, everyone. I felt I owed you all an explanation for why it's now two weeks past the last scheduled update for Primrose War.

So, I've had a bit of a personal upheaval. I'm moving forward with building a house, not immediately, but there's been a lot of talking with friends and family about what it'll mean going forward. So that's one thing.

    Unexpected Hiatus

Hello everyone. I wanted to apologize for the lengthy, unexpected hiatus of The Primrose War. It was definitely unplanned, and this time I haven't been writing. Work, leading up to the holidays, has been more stressful than usual with the rush to get things done before I take my two week end-of-year vacation.

    Next chapter delayed

Hello everyone! I apologize, but the next chapter of Primrose War will be delayed by a bit. Between work and a few novel releases that I've been looking forward to, I haven't made as much progress as I wanted to on the next chapter. I do have a solid outline, though, for the rest of the book as well as part of the next, so I haven't been idle.

Weird Inspirations · 4:45am Jul 30th, 2020

So... I dusted off my Evernote login and started poking around.

A long time ago, in a chat program far far away (Skype), I was describing a play-through of Game Dev Tycoon using pony-themed names.

One of the games I made in that platform was "Pantymare". Much fun was had making jokes about it. Someone even dared me to write a story about it.

Five years later...

Well. Some of you are reading an offshoot of the story that sprouted from that idea. Or, at least, a seedling that got cast far away from the original seeding of that idea.

[8:36:40 PM] Giving Thought: Hmm... Her powers come from her panties. She can't take them off or she just becomes... who? Who's the pony behind the panties?
[8:36:54 PM] 『Luna』: Noble are you drunk
[8:37:46 PM] Giving Thought: Nope.
[8:38:07 PM] Giving Thought: I have the ability to be dirty and creative without imbibing alcohol.
[8:39:44 PM] Minds Eye: Proper Prim, a secretary for the mayor's office. But she longs for the day in which she can reveal her secret identity as Pantymare to the world.
[8:41:42 PM] Giving Thought: Sounds good to me. A properly dressed mare, so she can hide the magic panties she... what? Inherited from her mother? And when she puts them on, her cutie mark changes to a pair of panties.
[8:43:28 PM] Giving Thought: A proud, strong line of Pantymares, stretching down through the generations. All wearing panties blessed by Celestia's rump on the day she first raised the sun.
[8:44:14 PM] Minds Eye: Perhaps there must always be Panties. A guardian of the world, ready to stand against the forces of evil. But the power of evil is growing, and Pantymare is the first to publicly show her powers is the hope that one day, she can find and train others to fight alongside her.

The original story was set in modern day, and starred Primrose Promise, a would-be villainess from a lineage of ponies stretching down from an ancient war between Roses and Prims. She was the daughter of a forbidden romance between a Prim and a Rose.

Then I wanted to know more about the war. And more about the city. And the culture. And the... goddamnit, I've got 400,000 words written in the past!

The original story evolved as well, and now I have 16 chapters of that.

Then Carapace infected me with the brainworms and made me write 25 chapters of an AU to the past story.

And now some of you are reading "The Primrose War" and I find this, and I just had to think about "How the fuck did I get from point A to point X?"

... well, there it is. Little tidbit for all of you if you were curious. Spoiler free. From a silly, sexy Superhero comedy to a serious attempt at writing a romantic drama set in two fictional, warring cities.

You also forgot to blame me for seeding the entire past story by asking questions about the culture. You're welcome.

Edit: Also, it's a great thing that I totally don't have 30 chapters of wartime story, 24 of AU, another AU somewhat brainstormed, and another side of the modern story centered around a member of a special branch of the military or anything.
