The Honest Farmer (Short Story) · 10:55pm Jun 14th, 2020
Applejack carried her bucket of apples through the woods. She continued walking, until she passed by a nearby lake. She got caught up in her reflection that she accidentally dropped her bucket of apples into the lake. “Oh no, no, no, no, no!” She looked into the lake, watching the bucket sink to the bottom. She sighed, sitting down.
Then, the water started glowing. She backed up. “What the..?”
Before she knew it, a mare raised out of the lake. She stared in disbelief. “Who are you?”
“I am the Mare of the Lake, and I am here to return your items.” She held up two bucket, one with gold apples and the other, silver apples. “Are any of these your items?”
She shook her head. “No ma’am. My apples were normal red apples.”
The mare smiled. “Of course.” Then she dove underwater and came back up with all three buckets. “For your honesty, I shall reward you with all three buckets.”
Applejack smiled and took the buckets. “Thank you kindly.” The mare smiled and left. Applejack trotted away.
A few feet away, two ponies watched the mare trot away. “What do you think, Flim?”
“I think it’s a free goldmine, Flam.”
The two ponies trotted over to the lake, carrying their prized possessions. They then dropped them into the lake. The mare rose up, holding the gold and silver version items. “I have come to return the items, which one is yours? The gold or the silver?”
They immediately reached for the gold and silver objects, but the mare took the items back. “Sorry, but since you’re dishonest, I will not allow you to have your items back.” She then dove back into the lake, leaving Flim and Flam empty hooved.
Ooh. Good story

No problem
A nice little short. Wouldn't mind seeing it expanded into a fully-fledged oneshot someday, if you're ever inspired to take it in that direction.
