“A Parliament of Wizards” Submission Deadline Extended! · 6:53pm May 20th, 2020

Hey readers! Quick update here! Many of you recall the open submissions for Parliament of Wizards, LTUE’s fourth benefit anthology, correct?

Well, due to the Covid-19 quarantine messing with things, the publisher has decided to extend the submission deadline through the end of May. I only realized this the other day, or I’d have informed you all sooner, but if you’d almost completed a submission before the original April deadline, but Covid-19 pushed it to the back burner … you’re in luck! There’s still time!

The new submission deadline is May 30th. Hemelein’s newly updated post on it can be found here.

Have I mentioned before that I thoroughly disapprove of extending deadlines? And it seems like literally anyone that ever does anything with a deadline does it. Does nobody have any expectation of self-discipline anymore?

I generally try to avoid it, but sometimes life throws a curve-ball you can't control, and the pandemic is definitely a large one of those. Plus, extending it for that would account a bit for those that may have been able to finish it while out of work.

I generally try to avoid it, but sometimes life throws a curve-ball you can't control, and the pandemic is definitely a large one of those.

So you're suggesting the extension is due to the weaknesses of those putting on the event, and not the participants themselves? I suppose I'm more willing to buy that,

But I don't understand how extending it accounts for those that "may have been able to finish it while out of work." Are you sure you said what you meant to, there? It sounds as though you're saying these people were able to finish it even faster because they were out of work. While it makes perfect sense they'd be able to do so without that (presumed) 8-hour drain on their daily activities (yes, yes, I know, job hunting takes up time too, don't hate me, bro), why would you have to extend a deadline over it?

No, I'm saying that those putting the event may have realized "Hey, wait a minute, a bunch of people now suddenly have free time. Why don't we extend our submission deadline so that we can get more submissions?" Given that the prior deadline was only a week before a lot of places truly shut down, extending it out another month could give those who were dealing with that sudden curve and then nothing but free time after the deadline had passed a chance to make good use of their newfound freedom.

Ooooh, okay. that makes much more sense.
