This is what happens when I try to write something serious. · 12:47am May 6th, 2020

I was going to write a thing about a dude slowly going insane in his hunt for immortality. The first paragraph below is as far as I got. After that, I kept imagining a buddy cop scenario where he succeeds in planting his soul into a crystal, only to realize it sucks, and then having his assistant (she was already 200% done with his shit when he was alive, but she stayed around anyway and now regrets it) carry him around until he finds a new body. He annoys her the whole time by being melodramatic.

The fragile nature of mortality follows me like a storm cloud, thundering and flashing, a constant reminder that I am forever at the mercy of powers beyond my comprehension. Even now, in the stillness of sleep, it haunts my dreams.

“You are not doing this again, I swear.”

There. Another stab into the open wound of my psyche, another stinging reminder that I will one day die. I live but a single time, and never again. The end may not be soon, but it will eventually come. The fate of every living creature is death, and there exists no magic capable of truly escaping it.

“You’re insufferable, you know that?”

Death is angry with me. It is becoming impatient. It has waited too long to claim its victim.

“You couldn’t pay me to claim you.”

Even death will not accept me. When life finally relinquishes my hand, death will not be there to catch me. I will plummet into an endless abyss; falling, falling, forever aware, but never conscious. The only fate worse than death.

“Now you’re just being overly dramatic.”

Existence is the stage upon which life and death intertwine, comedy and tragedy becoming one as they dance through eternity. There is no music, no audience, neither costumes nor makeup. It is a play without acting, the most dramatic performance of all.

“That makes zero sense.”

Death is senseless, as is life. We come from nothing, we suffer, we fade to nothing. What is the point of it all?

“Will you end this charade if I-“

Life is a charade exposed only by death.

“…”

The silence of death surrounds me, embracing me with-

“You know, I could just leave you here.”

No, that’s okay, I’m done.
