The explanation I heard was those sporting activities were considered more or less solitary (sitting alone up in a tree stand, for example) and therefore wouldn't likely cause much stread of the virus.

Of course, if you ask me, the state government just didn't to make the folks with the ammo stockpiles and pointy hooks angry

Of course, all that hunting/fishing also means travelling and stopping in small towns for supplies. Sounds like a good way to spread an infection to otherwise isolated areas.
