As usual for me blogging after an episode, spoilers to follow.

Polsky Resurgent
So in case you didin't notice, this is the first episode since Over a Barrel that Dave Polsky has written. I'm not going to lie, seeing his name at the start of an episode usually spelled an oncoming shitstorm, and I was worried when I heard he was back for this season. Turns out, itunes snatched the shitstorm out from under him and Dave Polsky wrote a kick ass episode. Kudos to the man.

Pinkie Pie
Pinkie Pie, for a few reasons, is my least favourite of the mane 6. Still better than any other pony in any other category of pony, but my least favourite among the mane 6. Episodes about her never go well for me. Except for a Friend in Deed, which I liked because it was about *just* Pinkie and dealt with one of my number one problems with her. Also had the Smile song. Eeyup. I'm off-track here, basically I felt a degree of trepidation coming in. Turns out I was justified.

Reference jokes
Wow. Just wow. I'm just going to say there were reference jokes. That will be all.

More eloquently, this could not be worse for my OTP unless Lauren Faust herself descended from the heavens and proclaimed, "Yo Dawg, Imma let you finish, but Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are never ever getting together. Ever." This episode is a close second to that.

And we probably won't have fluttershy and Rainbow Dash voiced in an episode together again for another few weeks. I'll leave this off on the note "I'm mad.". Like it wasn't obvious.

Animation

No two ways about it, they're getting better. This episode had some really nice subtle stuff, and some really nice not so subtle stuff.

Left Hanging

That book. Why was it there? What's it called? Why does it contain a legend that only Pinkie Pie knows.
Why do all of Fluttershy's critters live in a fully furnished house together?
And the Mirror Pool itself. It seems like this week was filled with brilliant fanfic fodder. Unless you ship Flutterdash. In which case:

There's some aspects to the running of the show that need to be brought into check, but otherwise it's full steam ahead to next week.

MFW reference jokes

I think I was laughing uncontrollably for about five minutes straight, not even kidding. The Flutterpie and Pinkiedash moments in this episode were also a bit too much of a burden to bear. Speaking of bears, the only thing I've got with the woodland critters sharing a home is that it's exclusive for friends of Fluttershy as she has tamed them into complete and utter docility.
