CHAPTER 3: For Ages 3+ Does not include Figurines
Have you ever noticed how most toys don't contain the figurines? You always have to buy them separately. This chapter's title also references the fact that Rainbow is noticing more background ponies or 'extras'. 3+ is the usual age marking on the boxes for kids' toys.
It's an old joke about where the other half of the cockroach is when you find half a cockroach in your meal. Noodles in this case, because China.
Carrot Top is the fan name for Golden Harvest. The Flower sisters all usually sell flowers. But the pun here is that flour and flower are homonyms. The grinning pony is Minuette, whose fan name is Colgate due to her colouring. Hence why she works at a Dentist's office.
The Distinguished Furniture Society is a pun based on the British furniture discount store named Doncaster Furniture Store, or DFS, which we always said stood for discount furniture store. The Honourable Partnership Stationery Supplies Consortium is of course former British high-street store Partners the Stationers, now taken over and rebranded by Ryman's. Their logo was a stylised pen, but of course this is referencing Sofas & Quills in Ponyville.
Red and Gold are lucky colours in China. Dragons are lucky too, so of course Spike would be red and gold. His name also got mistranslated. Which leads to an even more horrendous pet name from Rarity than usual.
The seam and hinges in the castle is because the toy castle in China's factories would have one. This is showcasing the causal link between the dimensions.
The socks come from an old 1980s kids story where tears in space-time were found by a child. It was said that odd socks fell through these cracks, and that's why you can never find a matching pair.
