I Think It's Called Ponytown... Story Notes | Chapter 7 · 3:35pm Jan 24th, 2020

CHAPTER 7: Placeholder Text - Insert Trasnlation here

Placeholder Text is often used during the design process (the most famous being Lorem Ipsum) to denote where text should go, but without the added cost of needing someone to have actually produced copy. They misspelled Translation too.

The opening paragraph highlights DFS and Partners again, which were popular British stores.

A yellow chaise-longue features in the season 7 episode 19 'It Isn't the Mane Thing About You'.

'colour. The kind I wish I saw before my feelings were like no other' is not only rather apt for the story, but a quote of the lyrics to the song 'Verisimilitude' by Svix. I'm a big fan of the remix with the rather classical bent from Glaze (Wooden Toaster). Hence the title is referenced in the next line by Twilight.

'but do not... PANIC!!!!' - because whenever you tell ponies not to panic, what happens?

'fanging hold' (pronounced fangin' holt) is a bit of very localised English slang, which actually has roots in Germanic and Norse languages. It's still used in certain regions.

Old English fang "seizing or taking," from Proto-Germanic gefangen "seize, take, capture,"; in Old Norse fanga "sieze, grasp".

The fang used nowadays for a certain tooth is thought likely to be derived from this meaning, as the teeth which grasp hold.

'lovely leather davenport' - we can discover the pony holding on in this description of what he is holding on to.

'The lines glowed faintly against her coat like some sort of glittery art project.' - A slight jab at how scrawling some glittery lines on pony toys makes it a whole new line for parents to buy their kids.

'Name Here' - a reference to a failure to make the copy needed in the title of the chapter. Or it really could've been some 'Our Town' equality naming-convention thing. Rainbow does have a point. After all, Our Town was essentially a two episode diatribe against the dangers of Communist Marksism, I mean Marxism.

'The matrix cannae take it... You need more power!' - I have no idea how this managed to slip through the dimensional rift since Star Trek isn't by any means a Chinese show, but you just have to use a Scotty Star Trek joke where you can, right?

'flashbacks to having her barn demolished' - This happened in the season 2 episode 3 'Lesson Zero'.

'luminous green all over' - Glowy effects are always used in films to denote magical powers.

'The Chinese stock market crashed' - It actually did do this at one point due to a huge manufacturing / housing bubble. There is such a thing as a 'Flash' measure, which just happens to tie in nicely with Flash Sentry's name. Note that Georg gets best comment award for his comment "So *that's* what a Hasbro Cease and Desist order looks like from the other side.'

Beixin Insight is a play on Caixin Insight, only using the character Bei for shell which was historically used to denote money, instead of Cai which is the modern word for wealth. Wan Derong is partially the name of someone I knew. De Rong means Obtain Glory, which I always thought was very cool.

'coruscating' - another word not used enough. The green shield magic is obviously tingeing the edges of the metallic looking beam.

'welcome wagon mistakes' - A reference to the season 2 episode 18 'A Friend in Deed'.

The yellow chaise-longue was from the original universe, so of course it survived. Rarity will be pleased. Poor Davenport though.
