A little... Well, a little... Update? · 12:58am Jan 20th, 2020
Hello again.
It's been a while since my last... what should I call it? Spontaneous chapter? I mean, some of you may have noticed that Just Like Magic of Old has gotten its regularly scheduled updates... Well, when I remember to actually post them; chapter 5 went up two days late. But it was ready on time- as a matter of fact, as of today, chapter fourteen of the same just got in line for its publishing date fifty-seven days in the future. (Meaning, assuming I don't finish chap. 15 before I publish chap. 6 tomorrow, I'll have eight chapters waiting in line for publication...)
I'm also running on a very tight budget, and nopony seems to click over to my Patreon very often...
So hay, why not?
Starting now, I'm running a 'special offer' on my Patreon. (It won't actually appear on Patreon for a minute or two after I post this, but that doesn't matter. It's already set, and it doesn't matter if you join before or after it appears.) When it ends, at midnight on Sunday Feb. 2nd, all of my paying patrons- including both new and old patrons, no matter the level, including a mere $1- can name a story... and I'll see to it that it gets updated with a minimum of 2500 words. Which, since I only ever update chapter-by-chapter (and don't really consider word counts very much when I define what makes a chapter), may mean multiple chapters for that story.
Worried about being a 'patron' but not a 'paying patron'? So long as you are a patron before the first of the month, and your payment doesn't bounce (even if it doesn't finish processing until after the offer 'ends'), you're a 'paying patron' for the purposes of the offer.
Now, I want to guarantee I'll get all that updating done during the month of February, but I'm a programmer- if I guarantee that, then get some 500 new patrons... chances are I can't dish out an average of twelve chapters a month. So, I will do my best to get them all in February. Barring large numbers, or someone being (very) slow to pick what they want updated, I should have no (significant) problem doing that.
In terms of which story to update, you choose... well, the patron in question chooses, but you get the idea. Any story not marked as 'completed' or 'cancelled' is game; even some of the ones that have been 'cancelled' are game. If you want a continuation of Featureless ('On Hiatus'), you'll have to also provide an idea for where to take it, because I haven't the faintest.
And of course, I've got a non-pony fic currently exclusively available on my Patreon (The Boy who Disappeared, all chapters public at this time), and a few asofyet unpublished stories, all of which are also game. (For details on the latter, come chat with me on my Discord server). I'm even working on a little all-original collaboration with another great author that, depending on what he says, may be on the table as well.
Note that participation in the offer- by naming a story- is not mandatory by any means. You'll be able to name that story anytime between the end of the 'offer' and whenever you end your patronage- if ever- and I'll get the update done as quickly as I can.
Further, note that this offer does not include new commissions. For that, you're welcome to negotiate directly with me... and/or pick that highest reward tier. This offer is in addition to any commissions, so no loss.
Edit 2/4/2020: Now that the offer is over and closed, it's time to disseminate the rewards... and of course, because I didn't know how Patreon special offers worked, it won't actually tell me who all is a beneficiary of it until next month, on 3/1/2020. I can make a pretty good guess before then, but... If I miss someone this month, that's why, and I'll get you next month, when it tells me who all should get it.
Interesting. If I had a Patreon account, I would take that offer.

Well, a Patreon account doesn't take much to make...
Unless you happen to be below the legal age, where that could be an issue. (Sorry about that, if it applies.)
