Bronies! I'm not dead! Or seriously maimed or otherwise in trouble! (Seriously, thanks for the notes of concern about my absence.)
I'm afraid the reason my fanfic stalled is nothing very exciting.
In August, I had to take a month break because of other writing commitments. When I finally had time to get back into "Of Age", I was horrified to find that all my files of fanfic notes (including the fully-written next several chapters) were no where to be found.
I got a new computer in August because my old one died on me. I had THOUGHT I'd copied everything from my old hard drive onto an external drive. I literally had everything else, but somehow these files didn't make it or got lost or something, because I couldn't find them anywhere.
This made me a sad brony and I packed up my story for a while. Not very mature of me, but I was kind of crushed at the time.
In October I got around to picking myself back up and getting back to work on rewriting the next chapter of my fanfic, but it was slow going and painful. Then NaNoWriMo hit, and I ALWAYS do NaNoWriMo, so I had to drop all fanfic and begin a new original novel. That's what I'm in the middle of right now. It's my tradition.
Anyhow, enough with excuses. I really REALLY want to see this fanfic through to the end, and I do have the next chapter almost completely rewritten. However, I'm realistic that the earliest the next chapter will be up will be some time in December, and that chapters after that will also be spaced apart in time. I promise you to do my very best to get this out to you guys. I really do. I just don't have oodles of time in my life to work on fanfiction between my full time job, my part time job, and my pursuit of publication for my original fiction. But for the handful of you who are willing to patiently wait, you'll get new chapters eventually. Pinkie Pie Promise.
*facehoof* I also just realized I'd managed to write an entire blog entry without including the most important part:

508690 I know...and I personally can't stand it when authors mysteriously disappear and leave a fanfic hanging. So I feel especially guilty now that I AM that author.
If you still have the old comp or the hard drive (I ALWAYS save mine) you could just hook it up to the new computer and pull the files off.
508696 I've got two great friends who rock at computer things, and neither could get my old stuff off my old dead computer's hard drive. One managed to recover a few files, but not nearly all of them.

You couldn't have said anything? It takes 10 minutes to make a blog post, you could have said one thing, even "I'm alive, I'm just really busy" would have sufficed. I find it hard to believe that you could not spare such a small amount of time.

508715 Guilt is exactly why I avoided making a blog post. At first I thought things would be fine, because I'd already made a blog post in August explaining that I was on break. Then in October I thought I'd be able to rewrite my chapters real fast and post them and maybe no one would have noticed. But as October wore on and the chapters just wouldn't get written, I felt worse and worse about keeping people waiting. And I basically turned chicken and ignored FIMfiction for about a month, when it finally dawned on me how long I'd kept people waiting.
But I've ponied up a little since then. So yes, feel free to pester me and guilt trip me and to take out as many frustrations as you have on me! I deserve them, and I'm posting here so that you guys can have a forum for yelling at me, assertive Fluttershy style. Or sad Fluttershy style. Or any sort of Fluttershy style. She's best pony when it comes to making somepony feel bad.
508700 Strange, unless it was the hard drive that went bad on it. Normally, you could just rip the hard drive out of the old rig and hook it up to a new one with the correct connections, Sata or IDE, and access everything in it. even use it as your main drive, if you so desired.
508731 The death of the computer was virus-related, if that helps things make any more sense (I don't honestly know, because I don't know a lot about computers. I just know how to type on them.)

Well. I can understand that feeling of not wanting to do something. What's worse is the longer it goes on the worse it will get and the less you want to actually do it, just a vicious, vicious cycle. Regardless, I'm glad you are back. No real hard feelings.

508736 Viruses are basically implanted in the hard drive, so it does indeed. However, if it didn't completely fry the hard drive, making it unusable so it wouldn't turn on or read, it would probably be possible to delete the virus still. Still, considering the damage the virus apparently did, it might not be the best idea.

Hey, I did NaNo this year too. Although I didn't take the original route, I planned and wrote out the 'middle story' of a series I've been working on, Pony-related.
Very sorry to hear about all the trouble you had concerning your story. But I shall wait patiently for a bit longer until you post again.
Out of curiosity, how far are you on NaNo? Have you won?
No worries, it is fine. Just take the time you need and do what you can, I'm sure next chapters will meet success.
