The Night's Stars Q and A! · 9:58pm Nov 7th, 2019

In celebration of The Night's Stars passing 200 likes, I'm doing a Question and Answer session. It's a little late, but still. Ask away!

Any questions you have pertaining to The Night's Stars? Ask and I'll try to answer them to the best of my abilities! I don't know how much detail I'm willing to go into regarding spoilers, but if I do reply with spoilers, I will hide the spoiler section with this.

I was wondering, how much has the story deviated so far from your original vision? I know it's much longer than you originally anticipated, but what about the plot.

Also, the story's anniversary is coming up.

It's deviated a bit, and that's partially to blame because of the length. As an example, I had originally intended for Nightmare Moon to "train" Twilight, but Twilight, however, was still terrified, so with the chapter being told from her point of view, "train" becomes "hunted." In a forest. At night. It didn't work out because of how the story's paced, and the pacing is another reason why it's deviating.

Another example was with Lord Tirek. Originally, my plan was for him to escape later on and end up with Nightmare Moon and Twilight having to face him down together- alternatively, and what I was wanting more than this, was for Nightmare Moon to give Twilight her magic so that Twilight could defeat Lord Tirek. However, that doesn't quite make sense for a few reasons, and as such, I dropped that idea.

And of course, the romance is progressing at the speed of continental drift, which is entirely my fault with pacing and how I got carried away writing Twilight.

I had originally pictured for Twilight and Nightmare's hug from Discord Part 3 to happen in Nightmare Moon's chambers at the Castle of the Two Sisters, but the castle was incomplete, so I had to rework that entire idea. It would have more or less been the same scene, just with a different setting.

I'm sure there are other things, but right now those are the examples I can remember.

Also, the story's anniversary is coming up.

Ah yes. I remembered this week and then forgot, and I might end up forgetting again at this rate...

Why do you write?

I write because I enjoy writing and being able to tell the stories I can come up with. It's nice to see that other people enjoy the efforts I go to as well. I have had so many story ideas and yet I have written so few of them because of whatever reason. There have been some stories I regret writing, but I've written several stories I adore. It's a fun and enjoyable hobby. While writing might not always be fun or enjoyable, it's nice to see the end result as well, how things weave together to tell a specific story.

There are some ideas I've wanted to write but don't want to write for various reasons, and then there are things I've started to write but I've not finished.

I enjoy telling stories, and I enjoy these characters.

Thanks! I appreciate that.

What inspired you to create this story?

Hahaha... you should have asked this a year ago. I can't entirely remember, and it's been this way for a couple of months now. I remember confessing to one of my prereaders that I couldn't remember, and it bothers me that I don't remember.

If I had to point to a story, then probably say The Quiet Place- although It's not the only inspiration, and I can't remember what I had been reading when my idea for this story took shape.

Originally, I had an idea for a different story that was going to focus on Nightmare Moon and Twilight Sparkle, set after/during the Season 5 finale. I almost wrote that instead, but for a reason I can't remember, I ended up putting the other idea off, and I've not regretted it.

This picture also helped to inspire me to write this fic, and it's one of my favorites.

Several songs also drove me towards writing this. Mostly Luna/Nightmare Moon themed. I don't have the list right now I'm afraid; if you want I can try to find them and link you to them.

It might also be obvious if you've seen what I've written, but I'm a fan of Twidash, and eventually Twiluna, and now Twimoon/Moonlight. Having written Twiluna probably factored into it. Nightmare Moon is probably my favorite villain if we exclude Discord. I also had a crush on Princess Celestia (and still do) when I started writing this story.

Furthermore, I wanted to write a fic where the villain was competent. Not making stupid mistakes, avoiding creating plotholes, etc. Not evil for the sake of evil, but intelligent. Twidashforever's TiM series has probably factored into The Night's Stars as well, if only because said series did shape my writing a long time ago.

I know I mention it in like every comment I put on the story, so I won't bother bugging you about the romance between Twilight and NMM, besides, that would be... :raritycry:SPOILERS! So, instead I'll ask... What made you want to write such a story around Twilight and NMM, even though it's probably one of my favorite pairings, it's definitely not a common one.

Don't worry about bothering me, I'm glad to answer!

I wanted to write this pairing because it's so uncommon. Like I mentioned before in reply to Zeprto678, I've gone from liking Twidash, to Twiluna, to Twimoon. I still adore both Twidash and Twiluna, but Twimoon is also quite fun.

The way that Nightmare Moon and Twilight Sparkle can play off of each other is interesting for when they're paired together. I'll admit I've not really read many Twimoon stories so I don't have many examples to give or experience with how the ship works. The art of this pairing is also quite rare but can be nice.

As to how I came to like this ship, I can't fully remember; I'm not entirely sure. I skimmed some of my blog posts from around the time I started writing The Night's Stars, and from what I gathered, I came to realize Nightmare Moon was my favorite villain.

Regarding the romance, with what I have written ahead it at least becomes obvious Nightmare Moon is longing for more involving Twilight, but isn't exactly compelled to voice that for several reasons. I've run into a few problems with developing the romance aspect, so it's taking a lot longer than I ever intended or imagined.
