The tentative release date for The Night’s Stars chapter 54, “The Battle of Manehattan” is in one week, on 9/21/23, at ~5 P.M. E.S.T.
Sorry for the long wait.
I don’t really like this chapter. I changed it greatly from the original, which in hindsight was even worse. In the unlikely event that I ever rewrite this story, it’s something that I’d change and/or handle quite differently, I think.
I’ve not actually done a proper editing pass; I reread it and spotted several mistakes I need to correct, and some wording I need to revisit. I’m not sure if I will or not. I’ll try to.
I’d wanted to make some art to go along with this chapter but I lack the motivation, and the perspective isn’t something I’d be able to get right, I think.

Their lives would be wasted. They would die for nothing. The thought left a bitter taste in her mouth.
A bolt of lightning descended to a street some distance away, followed by the sharp crack! of thunder.
She stripped the minotaur of his armor and cast his body aside, then studied the armor until she heard a quiet clink of metal hitting the pavement.
Had she dropped something? No, she had not.
It’s hard for me to believe that this chapter was originally written over three years ago... A bit discouraging, to be honest.

I am very much looking forward to this. It is great to hear that, even with your currently non too pleased feelings towards your wonderful story, you still manage to continue on with it. Though I do wish you'd find your earlier happiness with it again.
Is it more of a problem with the current part we're in or the story as a whole?

Moreso just the current part. The original chapter was probably pushing too far into mature territory with the violence/dark aspect of it, and just... the inclusion of certain things which I’ll leave you to discover in the author’s notes. The short, less-spoilery (IMO) version is that I had the Minotaurs being a bit too industrious and I just don’t/didn’t like how that fit (or rather did not fit too well) in the overall setting.
I do look forward to other chapters much more than this.
