    River City Equestria Girls?

Seriously, that's Pinkie Pie on the left, and Rainbow Dash on the right. Tell me I'm wrong.

I will not write a fanfic about the two of them getting into all the fights.

    Probably.

An "I don't have livejournal anymore" sort of update.

    It snowed yesterday.

Which just reminded me how much I don't like winter. It wasn't even a bad snow, just enough of a dusting to linger for a little bit. First one of the season. And I even had the day off from work, due to my schedule, so it's not like I had to do anything ...

    So I didn't.

    Happy Halloween!

So yeah. Despite various distractions (Steam had Darkest Dungeon for UNDER FOUR BUCKS), I've managed to hammer out a ridiculously shippy conclusion to the self indulgent Rarijack story I started.

So that's fun? I gave myself a deadline to finish things on Oct 31, so that's what I did, dangit. Hopefully you guys will enjoy.

SO NOW WHAT? · 1:17pm Oct 13th, 2019

Right then!

Show's over. Kind of. At least 'til the EQG finale and the inevitable G5 reboot in a few years. Which I'll muse over in a later blog post. But until then, you have no doubt found yourself adrift, having lost a TV show that you got waaaay too into. And that's what this blog post is for! Because there are, in fact, OTHER television shows on the air/intarwebs. And y'know, some of them are pretty dang good. Which brings us to this blog post in which I point some more folks at some quality TV that may help to fill in the pony-gap, so to speak.

First up? The Good Place.

It's a sitcom ... about moral philosophy! And, y'know, it's also one of the best acted, most tightly-written shows on television. It's smart (but not condescendingly so), but it also knows the value of a cheap gag. Honestly that trailer above makes it seem just a little cheesier than it really is (I blame the music), but I don't wanna give too much away 'cause the show is a RIDE. The first three seasons are on Netflix, and the fourth (and final) is currently on the air. Give it a watch!

Sidenote: I've briefly considered a crossover/pastiche/Human in Equestria story called: The Pony Place, but I can't quiiiite get all the pieces to fit together. Even if Twilight is a perfect Chidi. And Rarity is obviously Tahani. And ... well, hmm. Parallels, I guess.

OR

Maybe you want something more on the magical adventure side? Well, we got you covered! As there's also Legends of Tomorrow! My favorite show on TV these days.

Not gonna lie, the first season is kind of terrible, in that it takes itself waaaay too seriously. However, as the show goes on, it just gets dumber and dumber, in the best possible way. The writers lean into the absurdity of 'C-lister superheroes with a time machine,' and things just get more and more out of control from there. The central credo of Legends of Tomorrow's writer's room seems to be "why the fuck not?" and it shows. All and all, it's a quality show that's just plain fun, which can be hard to find these days. And with an ensemble cast, there's a favorite character for everybody!

All four seasons are on Netflix, and the fifth is due to hit in January. And given how long the CW tends to hang onto its shows, I imagine we've got more seasons to come after that.

OR

Maybe you wanna watch something animated? Something simpler? Something that's more of a blatant toy commercial? Well, I got you covered, friends: Gundam Build Fighters.

The premise is goofy, shameless, and brilliant. Basically, it posits a world in which crazy super-technology can be used to animate Gundam models ("Gunpla," as the term goes) to make them fight in little arena-games. The thing is, the better you build your Gunpla, the better it will perform on the holographic battlefield. But the thing is, said holographic battlefield is rendered in-scale, and animated like an actual giant robot fight ... except that since it's a game, there's an actual reason for a 14 year old to be piloting a giant robot.

The show's available for free on YouTube: start with Gundam Build Fighters, and then you can work your way through the various series. The third series, Gundam Build Divers, kiiiind of takes a weird turn, thematically, but I wound up liking it pretty well by the end. The newest volume, Gundam Build Divers Re: Rise, just started a few days ago-- I'm looking forward to getting caught up!

So yeah! Thanks for reading, and I hope some of the stuff I mentioned here is up your alley! (As then I'll actually have somebody to talk about said shows with).

AAAAAAA I love the good place so much!
( also, if we are doing Pony comparisons, Michael is basically Starlight Glimmer.)

Oooh, good call. I was thinking Discord, but he’s just too chaotic.

Pinkie gets to be Jason, because Molotov cocktails.

Janet’s the hardest one to cast. Like ... maybe Spike? For the assistant thing? Just depends on how you wanna work it.

(Also Janet is way cooler than Spike but I digress)

I've been looking for another CW show to watch ever since I got caught up on The Flash. Do you think I should watch Arrow or Legends of Tomorrow first?

Depends on what you liked about Flash. If it was the sense of fun and light-hearted optimism, then Legends might be for you. If it was the story-telling and drama, I'd recommend watching Black Lighting.

Legends is my current favorite tv show as well!

I feel like Janet is DEFINITELY Celestia. Powerful yet restrained, aloof yet playful, calm and controlled but still having a streak of humor.

Also I feel like Trixie gives off more of a Jason Vibe. Pinkie is more like Janet’s boyfriend whoms name I’m forgetting at the moment.

Yeah, it depends on what you're in the mood for. Arrow is basically "Batman only with Archery," down to some of the villains. I honestly gave up after season two or three-- I mean, it was good, but I'm typically not in the mood for grim n' gritty all the time.

On the flipside, Legends of Tomorrow just keeps on leaning into the comic book crazy, and I am all for it.

(I also hear good things about Supergirl but I sadly didn't follow it on a regular basis).

Is it possible to start watching Legends of Tomorrow in the second season? I've got to be honest, I don't have any time to waste watching bad stuff anymore.

5138502

Definitely! The first season isn’t quite as dire as I make it out to be, but the later ones are just so much better as the show drops characters and plot lines that don’t work.

I'll give it shot! :pinkiehappy:

Yeah, Good Place and Seasons 3+ of Legends of Tomorrow are solid choices.
