Warm Nostalgia Weekend · 1:12am Sep 29th, 2019

Hello, every pony! Before I get deep into this blog, I’d like to give a shout out to all the wonderful ponies who have been reading my latest story:
Wondercolt Weekends! I have just published the first chapter, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Who knew writing about popular characters being cute would be so popular? Kidding aside, thank you all readers new and old for the support and I promise I’ll get that second chapter done at soon for you all to enjoy.

I have been working on a few different stories, rather all at once. I’m not sure I recommend it, but hey I have gotten more writing done lately than in a long, long time.

I continue to work on my Sailing Navy Epistolary, tentatively entitled “Heart of Oak”. It features mainly OCs, naturally, and I’m not so sure it will have great reception when or if it ever leaves the nest. Because it is in someways historical fiction, I am my own worst enemy as I am won’t to go off on research tangents, get obsessive over details, or change my mind rapidly back and forth. That said, at them moment it is looking like what I have done at the moment will be an effective prologue to my story, as it introduces the unicorn Captian Moonraker, the pegasai marine Windlass, and the brig-sloop HMS Racehorse. If I gave to much away, I’d spoil the story, but at the moment those three central characters are guaranteed to be in at least a bit of the story so I thought I’d bring them up. HMS Racehorse was a real RN ship, a 18 gun two masted one to be precise which was ironically wrecked off the Isle of Man. In my story she’s a newer ship, it being the year 1807 (Season 7, I see the show as taking place between 1800-1809) at the start of the tale. I also speculate that most Naval Officers are Unicorns, the sea men (horses?) being Earth Ponies, and the Pegasai are of course the Marines. But that is a story for another day.

I continue to work on Weekend Wonderbolts, at the moment I am fairly confident that Ch 2 is 2/3 done in the rough draft stage. Those of you keeping score will notice that the denominator in my progress reports keeps going up. That’s because this chapter is probably going to be longer than the last one, at least in terms of scenes. “Peeking at Pretty Pastel Ponies” was one, maybe two distinct scenes and came out around 1500 words if I recall correctly. “Just Us Girls Night” is set to be about 3 1/2 scenes, and I’m hoping it’s still around the same length thanks to dialogue. It probably will be longer, though.

I also plan to crank out a story for that Admiral Biscuit thing, and that will probably be about a thousand words. It’s entitled “Team Boat” and stars a female landscape artist of 1800s NY, a pair of pony brothers, and their Lake Champlain ferry boat. I’ve been waiting years for the right prompt for this one so hopefully that will be done and out for editing lickety split.

Meanwhile, for the first time in a long while I watched an episode livestream today. The episode was enjoyable, and I was surprised and excited to learn the series finale will be broadcast in prime time (8pm-9pm), allegedly as a three parter. It is a weird to have to consciously take advantage of all these “last times” lately with MLP:FIM. Certainly, my love for the show will never die. Nor hopefully will the friendships I have gained through it. But after devoting the better part of… seven years!?… to it, and it’s strange to think “this will be the last time I see FIM”. And so I find myself feeling nostalgic for when I first found pony, those seven years ago. Season Two was just ending, the fandom was producing unseen awesomeness at a feverish pace, and Twilight didn’t have a school, castle, or wings! It’s an irrational attachment, I think. Many, many good episodes, some of my favorite episodes came long after Season Two. Season Three when I started watching streams. Yet those first two seasons are the ones I love the most. It will be interesting going back and watching the whole series straight through, and seeing what my favorite episodes are again. But for the simple fact that Season 2 is when I met every pony, I’ll probably always think of that time period as the happiest of days. I’m curious, though, what point in pony time does everybody else love the most? I’d love to read your answers. In the meantime I’ll keep looking at this months new screen saver: Unicorn Twilight reading a book, sun streaming through the window of the Golden Oaks Library. It’s a peice called “Warm Nostalgic Feelings”.
