Some background music. You're going to need it: we're going to be here a while.

    Status Update, April 2024 Edition

Part of my slowness in writing M.L.G.'s latest chapter is for the usual reasons: tiredness, minor depression, having other things on the mind, that sort of thing. However, in what can only be described as "whimsy", I've recently decided to complete a list of all of the intentional shout-outs and references in the story as of the most recent chapter.

    Something To Think About

I have a message to share with prospective authors. If you go into writing a story---be it as a living, or just for fun---don't automatically assume that what you're doing is wholly original.

    Tired, Running On Empty

That pretty much summarizes my mental state of the past few days. Constantly tired (half due to not getting enough sleep and half due to my walking regimen), and I can't really think of things I want to write for the story. You know you're having trouble finding things to talk about when your brain fishes for tuna, but ends up with guppies instead.

    So INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATED Right Now

I copied the latest chapter of M.L.G. to my flash drive as usual. I took it home with the intent to post it today. I double-click the file.

2019

I'm feeling more or less better after those headaches I was putting up with, so I'm calling an end to my break early.

First, a bit of music to set the mood:

The website's recommendation system has a sense of humor. Throughout Gormless's existence here on Fimfiction, whenever I go to check up on its stats, likes/dislikes and what-not, I'm told that Oldtakufanboy's Beauty & The Otaku (circa 2015) is a 'Similar' story just because it shares a couple character tags (namely 'OC', 'Sunset Shimmer', and 'Fluttershy (EqG)'). I have to chuckle a little whenever I see it. :rainbowlaugh:

The truth of the matter is that the two stories are nothing alike. Sure, Fluttershy makes sporadic appearances in Gormless, but her interactions with Puma Claw are very limited in scope. PC, for those who've forgotten or who haven't read the story, is #1: a Self-Insert, and #2: has all the qualities of my 14-year-old self. That is, he's slow-minded with topics that are beyond his understanding, is off in his own world most of the time, and--this is key--cares nothing for the "I love you, now can I please kiss you?" type of romance. He cares more for simply making it through each school day, taking care of his homework, playing video games, and spending time with his cats and family.

Something I want to bring up while I'm here is that I didn't select the "Romance" tag for a very good reason: there isn't going to be any. Romance and shipping (and love in general, come to think of it) escape me even at the best of times. I'm not going the shipping route: Puma's flying solo. Not with Fluttershy, not with anyone, and--given what the story's about--definitely not with Sunset Shimmer. I only have two goals with this story: #1, to see how I, as a teenager with all the flaws thereof and then some, would've dealt with Sunset; and #2, to see how much havoc I can wreak without derailing the events of the films or otherwise changing anything therein.

As an aside, I will be covering Puma's perspective of the first two films; the Sirens are in the cover art for a reason, after all. It's just going to take a while to get there. ()^_^ I recently forced myself to stop a playing an old computer game that was stealing a massive chunk of my time, so hopefully I can get chapters out in 2-3 months instead of 6-12.

Well, that's pretty much everything I can think of. Ciao mein everyone, and I'll see you next time!
