Something To Think About · 11:40pm March 23rd
I have a message to share with prospective authors. If you go into writing a story---be it as a living, or just for fun---don't automatically assume that what you're doing is wholly original.
During one chapter of M.L.G. a few years ago, I had an idea. One of my characters would send messages to Celestia by means of a dragonfire candle. Light the candle, burn the message, easy (though it was required to extinguish the candle quickly to prevent wastage). I thought at the time that the idea was novel.
Turns out it wasn't as novel as I thought. I have a collection of stories from FimFiction that I saved and transferred to my work laptop back when I first started going here. One of them, Mooncalf's "The Best Job in Equestria", I decided to re-read recently to pass the time. In the story, the main character transfers a letter to an associate by means of---yes---a dragonfire candle. I was beaten to the punch by at least seven years.
Taking us amateur authors into account, MLP: FiM has been kicking for around 14 years, give or take. Chances are, someone has already tried what you're thinking about doing, so don't make assumptions about your work. It's whether you can make your story enjoyable regardless that matters more in the long run.

Nah, you got it wrong. My idea of a black-red alicorn self-insert OC Twilight falls immediately in love with has never been done before!
