I don't enjoy writing The Wayward Butterfly anymore · 8:55pm Sep 7th, 2019

That's why it's taking chapter 8 longer to come out than previous chapters. I know what things I want to happen, but I'm not certain of how to string them together, and the story is almost over. Furthermore, I have plenty of other ideas for stories set in this 'verse, but I've been sitting on them because I've been wanting to get to the end of this one just to get all of the exposition out of the way.

Would you mind if I cancelled it and wrote another story in the Moonkind Universe? Here's a list of reasons why:

  • April gets shuffled around without getting the chance to know anyone. The order of events feels contrived, like, "and then this happened, because Nitro Indigo wanted April to get here." (In the Digimon version, she would've been with Biyomon and Budew all the time, forming a grudging friendship that gradually became a real friendship.)
  • She's also the ultimate example of a Pinball Protagonist, a trope I hate (further reading: The Last Wild by Piers Torday, Phoenix by S. F. Said), since she's limited in the ways she can interact with other characters. In hindsight, I could've at least played up how scary this would feel. She's also kind of boring in general, having little personality beyond being smart and annoyed at everyone.
  • It's too easy to mistake for a generic Displaced fanfic, to the point that someone added it to The Displaced group when it was first published and the constantly-changing "also liked" list always contains Displaced fanfics. I have difficulty summarising the plot briefly, too.
