"What if Starflight was blind from the start?"
From the moment he hatched, Starflight had been blind. He'd been told that the moist patches on the front of his face were called "eyes", that most dragons used them to do something called "seeing", and that something went wrong with his while he was developing in his egg. He knew that "sight" involved things called light, darkness, and colours, but those words meant nothing to him. Clay had told him that warm things were usually "bright", but stumbled over his words when he tried to explain colour.
For the first time in a long time, I wrote a whole fic in about an hour. I've had this idea for years, but couldn't get the words out... until today. This is my entry for day 1 of AU-gust 2023. I'm not sure how much sense it'll make to someone who isn't into Wings of Fire, but there's no spoilers, and I consider this a spiritual successor to Silent Wings.
