Yeah... About that next chapter of Noctis Ascending....

Yes, yes, I know, I haven't updated NA for months now and it's about time that I give an explanation about that, huh?

It's kind of embarrassing to admit, but all it really was, was plain old laziness...

    Remember that Noctis Ascending update?...

Yeah, I know. It's already been a month and a half since I updated. This blog post is basically just a rant on why I still haven't.

That's not all, though! At the end of this, I'll show you a little preview of Ch 7. Spoiler alert, I guess.

    About that Noctis Ascending update....

Come closer boys and girls for I have a story to tell... A tale of tragic loss and all that jazz...

Young LEN NARD was having an okay week. A couple people liked his story and he enjoyed reading all the comments. It was nice.

With his heart motivated, he decided to jump right in to writing, aiming to update five days after his last chapter... Only to be met with this.

Yeah, I know. It's already been a month and a half since I updated. This blog post is basically just a rant on why I still haven't.

That's not all, though! At the end of this, I'll show you a little preview of Ch 7. Spoiler alert, I guess.

Okay then, let's start with my previous blog post. As you all know, I lost the chapter because I forgot to save while the internet is wonky. Only four hundred words were left and I just don't feel like writing after that.

Days passed and I had time to think. I realized that loosing the chapter is actually a good thing! Looking back, the chapter doesn't have anything in it that actually progresses the plot, it was just 8k words of pointless filler and not a good one at that!

So I thought to myself: what do I do then? It's embarrassing to admit, but it took me two weeks to come up with a solution. My idea is to take a couple of key scenes that's supposed to happen in future chapters and make them happen earlier in the story. (I'll point out which ones in the author's note when I finally update.)

Of course, doing that would mean I'll have to rearrange things again in my head, which proven to be harder than I thought. Some scenes has to be removed entirely and invent new ones so I could change what happens in the story, but still on course with how I wanted it to go in general.

With that done, I started writing again, only to be met with the most annoying that could happen to an author.

Writer's block.

I know exactly what I want to happen in the chapter. I've already arranged the scenes in order in my head. But I couldn't seem to turn what I see in my mind into words. It's so... Argh! It's so stupid! I've done this before, why can't I do it again!?

All the sites I've visited about curing writer's block adviced that I should take a break, that sitting in front of the paper/screen when you clearly don't know what to write would only make it worse. You should relax your brain. Take a walk, watch TV or YouTube, go see a movie. Anything to get your mind to stop stressing, really.

What I did was binge read my favorite fics and every afternoon, I would try and see if I could write again.

The final reason why writing for me became difficult was my phone is kind of broken.

It just stopped charging one day. I found the the port was jiggly and loose. For it to charge, I had to position my phone in very specific angles. Figuring out what position my phone likes was very annoying, which didn't help my apparently stressed mind.

My phone's battery life wasn't the same after that. Before, I could type away at it for half a day before I have to recharge it again, but now, it could only run for about an hour, even if I adjust the brightness to the lowest setting.

So that why I haven't updated yet. A combination of human limitation and bad luck.

With my phone being annoying, I have to resort to using primitive technology. It's called a pen and paper. Analogue devices that ancient people used before they invented happiness.

I have to type what I wrote in one of my school's library computer (they don't have internet connection, but they do have Microsoft Word) and copy paste it at an internet café.

It's tuff as you can see. I can only write a couple hundred words a day right now, so please bare with me a little longer.

And with that said, here's the preview of Ch 7:

Sunday, a few minutes after the tour of Noctis’s lab...

Despite her initial statement of going home, Prism found herself sitting under the shade of a tree. The same one where the events that changed everything for her took place. Next to her was Cadance, the pegasus kind of just followed her there without question.

The blue filly looked around her surroundings. Birds could be heard chirping away to the sound leaves rustling in the morning breeze. It was such a lovely day, bright and cheerful... quite the opposite of what she was feeling right now.

She sighed. Her mom told her about emotional rollercoasters before; how it was just the worst! Ups and downs, zigs and zags, twists and turns. it’s an awful, awful ride to be in, and Prism was starting to believe she was on a front row sit in the beginning of one.

She felt so high last night at the sleepover. Wanting to feel her crush’s touch again gave her a motivational boost that inspired her to fight harder, but being in that basement reminded her that who she was dealing with wasn’t just a normal colt, pulling her harshly back down to reality.

Colts her age was still running around snot nosed with reckless abandon, but she remembers now that Nocturnal Solstice was different. He was a six year old that’s already making his own money, a genius who scored a hundred in the school placement test, have a real life lab with real life inventions and an earth pony who somehow figured out a way to use magic.

Prism groaned inside. Her mom warned her about colts before, telling her that they are nothing but trouble, this was what she gets for not listening; liking a colt was exhausting! Crushes are so complicated! No wonder her mom doesn’t go on dates with stallions anymore.

What to do now?

Should she just give up? Should she keep trying? How could she impress somepony like him? She never felt so... standard, so ordinary, than she did when she emerged from that house. That tour made her realise how truly out of league she truly was. What could she do though? It’s pretty obvious right now that the colt doesn’t care about looks. Stellar was probably the prettiest filly in the entire village, aside from Cadance, Prism hasn’t seen any filly else who could compete at their school, but even she could only barely make him blush.

It seems that her only hope was getting her cutie mark, which is going to be difficult since she doesn’t really know what else she’s good at. She’s good at using makeup and looking pretty, but since she didn’t get a beauty cutie mark, her destiny probably lies somewhere else.

Ugh, I’m gonna have to search for my talent, aren’t I?

She wasn’t looking forward to that. She heard those could get messy, and she doesn’t like getting messy. She shuddered to think how much dirt she’s going to have to clean from her mane. Though, it seems that she doesn’t have to think about it any further as Cadance chose that moment to finally break the silence.

Great sneak peek & its okay, I can wait a little longer.

I'm still hoping Prism and Noctis get together

Yeah, writer's block is the bane of the writer. True, getting some rest and relaxing do ease it. But sometimes you only need to look from different perspectives to pass the block. Hope this will be helpful, sorry if this a bit long. Anyway, nice sneak peak, waiting for the full chapter to release.

Hope you find a leak in that block of yours.
