I thought the story was a bit rushed, it may have been a bit better if it had been a three part episode, but I did like how Spike was the one who saved everyone, it's usually the others, its good to have other characters in the spotlight.

My biggest gripe is Sombra. I wish they at least shown him in physical form for like at least 5 minutes and have him say more than "crystal" over and over
i hate shining amour so when he didn't die i wanted to throw him like he threw his wife

Not to mention the lack of an action sequence. And Shining getting his ass kicked by Sombra didn't count since he's pretty much a red shirt.
i like how they improved the general thoughts on cadance, how she can shield an entire city for days on end,
however by removing shinings shield ability, they effectively made him completely useless. that's all he had.
sombra i don't need to talk about we all seem to share the same opinion on him
but most importantly, twilight can now control gravtiy, at least for her person. know what this means? fall into the sky, and then fall sideways.
get anywhere in no time :D then use a spell to decrease wind drag, and even speed herself up more, and suddenly she could challenge rd to a race.
especially sine if she can revers gravity, why not increase it? fall sideways with gravity 3x normal, supersonic here we come!
I knew things weren't going to be all fine and dandy...
And I haven't even watch the episode. I am hesitant to go because of what they did in Season 2.
In all likelihood, I am probably going to stumble upon some "Ancient" fact that suddenly pops up and ruins whatever fanon that
has been set in stone. Its trivial of me to think that, yes. But I am worried for how fanfiction is going to develop the more of official canon gets show.
Reliable old avenues of adventure are closed as more and more of the official canon is revealed. It is anyone's guess as to which part of our fanon is sent up to the firing line to get shot by a Gestapo, then never to be seen or heard from again afterwards. Though this might by my pessimistic mood showing through.
Still, I can't shake the feeling that something is going to pop up.
Ex: We see Scootaloo's and Applejack's parents. *POOF* Goodbye to those tragedy stories that
some authors seem so fond of writing. *POOF* Each of the Mane 6 suddenly get's paired up with somepony of the male dominance. Say goodbye to shipping any and all of the Mane 6. *POOF* ... Good lord, ANOTHER one!? (Referencing both adding in Cadence and Shining Armor) And since this is Hasbro we're talking about here.... It is inevitable that we'll see even MORE ponies shoved down our throat. (Then again, if I were Hasbro, I would be doing the same thing.)
Gah, sorry for the negativity here. After the Derpy Hooves and Luna incident, I am simply not that all optimistic for the future, especially if the show has to conform to political correctness.
All I need to say is that "YOU KNOW WHO" Got more screen time than King Sombra, come on! I was expecting more of a backstory, more evil action. NOT
But I loved it overall.

Had to do a post on your thread mate.
I am late because I watched it TODAY, yup, monday, two days after it's being aired thanks to almost having to punch someone on the face and having a pretty terrible weekend.
My opinion is that it was a good episode overral. The same fashion that MLP:FiM has already brought to us, start and end a session with a two part, "epic" episode about some more powerful than your avarage villain.
Sombra was... Well he was avarage to me, not bad, not awesome to enter the triunvirate of evils (N.M.M., Discord and Queen Chrysalis)
But a unicorn with some powerful darkeness magic (that apparentely is something that any powerful magic wielder can summon) was something different that broght a certain new feature to the show.
I mean, we have a show with colorful ponies, and then, here comes a episode where the all benevolent goddess of the sun shows her student how to control her emotions to bring about some evil and darkness... Kids show huh.
And I fear that we are did not seen the last of sombra, with that little red horn flying throght the screen on the end. We have a entire season to come, so let's wait.
What bugs me is that we don't have Lauren on the writing team anymore. She gave us the show, the concept behind the charaters, she started their personalities, and now... ?
Anything can happen! That's why some have feel Rainbow and Pinkie lacking their personalities. We can only and only hope that the team will stay on track and don't make too many mistakes that could cause the fans to abandon the comunity due to a total decharacterisation of our beloved mane six.
I would give to this start a seven out of ten moustaches.
Meh, I liked it, but the story did feel sorta disconnected in places, and jerky in others.
Plus, I found an animation glitch(?) within the first 8(?) minutes.
But overall, it gets my support.
Wait a sec Season 3 came out

I share the overall opinion that KS was underdevolped. My biggest gripe is how they colored RD and Pinkie Pie. They just seemed off. Yes Pinkie Pie is known for her randomness, but it is randomness with a purpose. Yes, RD is headstrong and impatient, but she is not a prick to her friends. All in all, I will just have to wait and see where they take this season.
