Equestria Girls: Sunset's Backstage Pass ranking · 4:55pm Aug 10th, 2019

0/10 - AWFUL (unsalvageable, nothing to be gained from watching it, never should have been made, wouldn't recommend to anyone, completely butchers an important subject/teaches a horrible and downright toxic moral)
1/10 - HORRIBLE/BORING (tedious to sit through, hurts to watch it, a bore, no reason to watch it, whatever positive things about it are tiny and not enough to save it)
2/10 - VERY BAD (slightly less terrible, maybe it had that one character you liked or one/two jokes you laughed at that kept it from being a 1 but still very painful)
3/10 - BAD (the kind of bad where you're checking your watch over and over to see how much time is left before it finally finishes)
4/10 - MEDIOCRE (not awful but not really that good either)
5/10 - EH (average, didn't love it or hate it but you feel like you could've done something better with your time)
6/10 - DECENT (the first positive rating on this list, fine overall, you wouldn't watch it again but you are glad you saw it once)
7/10 - GOOD (enjoyable enough that you'd maybe watch it again in future, had some noteworthy flaws but is overall a worthwhile sit-through you'd recommend to someone)
8/10 - GREAT (a solid, enjoyable episode, very entertaining)
9/10 - EXCELLENT (very engaging, awesome, you really recommend it to anyone)
10/10 - MASTERPIECE (extremely engaging, teaches a valuable moral perfectly, definite must-see for anyone)

Equestria Girls: Sunset's Backstage Pass EH

This was a'ight. Comedy was fun, some unapologetic shipping fuel sprinkled everywhere, Sunset's amazing as always and I'm kind of a sucker for the Groundhog Day trope.

But with how much Pinkie kept screwing up everything for Sunset on the first day of the music festival and the time loops showing that she'll keep doing it unless stopped, not to mention Sunset having to put up with this for three weeks, it's hard to not feel sympathy for her when she ditches Pinkie on the third loop and rants to the Dazzlings about her in another loop. So yeah, they really should've toned down Pinkie's behaviour here so the audience would've been on both sides.

And as for the Dazzlings, thank Christ they didn't get reformed or given the Woobie treatment. I'm honestly amazed the writers restrained themselves this time. I'm glad the Dazzlings still hate the Humane Seven and have just begrudgingly accepted they're stuck in the human world permanently and have to make a living as travelling musicians without any magic. But they really should've been the villains instead of the bland pair of villains we got. They could've been using the Time Twirler to get revenge on the Humane Seven and show them what it's like to be stuck doing the same thing over and over. Hell, maybe they could've used this opportunity to try and steal the magical geodes. Yes, they wouldn't have been the ones to make Sunset realise how unfairly she was treating Pinkie, but who says they had to be? Twilight or Applejack could've sat her down and told her what she was doing wrong, or Sunset could've realised it of her own accord.

But still, this was an okay special overall. Nothing spectacular but not bad.

Better a merely "all right" special than one that genuinely pisses you off, is what I say. Probably won't be rewatching this anytime soon but still, I didn't hate it, which is win enough for me.

Say, btw, what's your personal favorite Groundhog Day Loop story? Mine is probably either the movie itself (personal fav Bill Murray film) or the Legends of Tomorrow episode "Here I Go Again".

I'd have to say the original movie, Hewy, Dewey and Louie's segment from Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas (loved that as a kid) and of course...

Ooh, good choice! Can't believe I forgot about Dr. Strange.

I can see why you'd think this is meh, but I really enjoy basically all stories to do with time travel (which I why The Cutie Remark is one of my favourite two-parters despite the many issues), so because of that, and other great moments sprinkled throughout, I'd give this an 8 or 9.

Pinkie kept screwing up everything for Sunset on the first day of the music festival and the time loops showing that she'll keep doing it unless stopped, not to mention Sunset having to put up with this for three weeks, it's hard to not feel sympathy for her when she ditches Pinkie on the third loop and rants to the Dazzlings about her in another loop.

Thank you! I wanted to Punch Pinkie in the face after watching this.
