My Little Pony: The Movie ranking · 8:14pm Jan 19th, 2019

0/10 - AWFUL (unsalvageable, nothing to be gained from watching it, never should have been made, wouldn't recommend to anyone, completely butchers an important subject/teaches a horrible and downright toxic moral)
1/10 - HORRIBLE/BORING (tedious to sit through, hurts to watch it, a bore, no reason to watch it, whatever positive things about it are tiny and not enough to save it)
2/10 - VERY BAD (slightly less terrible, maybe it had that one character you liked or one/two jokes you laughed at that kept it from being a 1 but still very painful)
3/10 - BAD (the kind of bad where you're checking your watch over and over to see how much time is left before it finally finishes)
4/10 - MEDIOCRE (not awful but not really that good either)
5/10 - EH (average, didn't love it or hate it but you feel like you could've done something better with your time)
6/10 - DECENT (the first positive rating on this list, fine overall, you wouldn't watch it again but you are glad you saw it once)
7/10 - GOOD (enjoyable enough that you'd maybe watch it again in future, had some noteworthy flaws but is overall a worthwhile sit-through you'd recommend to someone)
8/10 - GREAT (a solid, enjoyable episode, very entertaining)
9/10 - EXCELLENT (very engaging, awesome, you really recommend it to anyone)
10/10 - MASTERPIECE (extremely engaging, teaches a valuable moral perfectly, definite must-see for anyone)

My Little Pony: The Movie DECENT

I've already written a full review of this so I'll be brief.

What do I like? The smoother animation style is very nice and leads to a grander scale of certain elements, the new places outside Equestria are very well-designed, the comedy is cute, Capper is my favourite of the new characters and sings my favourite song in the movie, the other songs are pretty good (One Small Thing, Rainbow, and Time To Be Awesome on a technical level), Princess Skystar and Queen Novo are decent, and the scene where Twilight tries to steal the Pearl and her argument with Pinkie afterwards is one of the best scenes in the whole show.

Now what doesn't work? The plot when compared to the premieres and finales isn't quite up there in terms of stakes or epicness, the Princesses are made useless again, Applejack and Fluttershy get side-lined, Grubber was annoying, the Storm King was very entertaining but disappointingly didn't get a lot of screentime, the pirates aren't that memorable and their turnaround is way too fast, the song We Got This Together was forgettable, and Open Up Your Eyes brings Tempest down from a genuinely cool threat to just another Starlight Glimmer (got screwed over once by two childhood friends, immediately turned to villainy because of that).

"I'm so tragic and sympathetic," says the pony who sold out her entire species to a psychopathic slaver warlord and led an invading army that put the CMCs in a cage.

"I just want my horn back!"

And I'm like--

(And depressingly, I still think she's more sympathetic than Starlight Glimmer.)

Yeah, but given the low bar MLP's recent villains have set, that's still not impressive. She still jumped to villainy all because her friends didn't want to play with her and she didn't even try making new friends or seeing a doctor about her horn.

You know what really grinds my gears about this whole business?

That people respond to the treachery accusation by saying "hur-durr, it's not treachery because she left Equestria, she renounced her citizenship". Like that makes selling everyone out to said psycho-slaver (and again, that they put honest-to-Christ kids in cages) makes it all okay, as long as you're not part of their country. :facehoof:

I agree that she's slightly more sympathetic than Shitstain Glitter.

Glad to hear it. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
