MLP Season 9 episode rankings (updated 18th August 2020) · 9:47pm Oct 14th, 2019

0/10 - AWFUL (unsalvageable, nothing to be gained from watching it, never should have been made, wouldn't recommend to anyone, completely butchers an important subject/teaches a horrible and downright toxic moral)
1/10 - HORRIBLE/BORING (tedious to sit through, hurts to watch it, a bore, no reason to watch it, whatever positive things about it are tiny and not enough to save it)
2/10 - VERY BAD (slightly less terrible, maybe it had that one character you liked or one/two jokes you laughed at that kept it from being a 1 but still very painful)
3/10 - BAD (the kind of bad where you're checking your watch over and over to see how much time is left before it finally finishes)
4/10 - MEDIOCRE (not awful but not really that good either)
5/10 - EH (average, didn't love it or hate it but you feel like you could've done something better with your time)
6/10 - DECENT (the first positive rating on this list, fine overall, you wouldn't watch it again but you are glad you saw it once)
7/10 - GOOD (enjoyable enough that you'd maybe watch it again in future, had some noteworthy flaws but is overall a worthwhile sit-through you'd recommend to someone)
8/10 - GREAT (a solid, enjoyable episode, very entertaining)
9/10 - EXCELLENT (very engaging, awesome, you really recommend it to anyone)
10/10 - MASTERPIECE (extremely engaging, teaches a valuable moral perfectly, definite must-see for anyone)

Finally, somebody shares my opinion on Ending of the End.

I thought The Last Problem was decent, it just had the horrible luck of coming after a horrendous finale.

It felt pretty tacked-on to me. Luster Dawn was bland, Twilight's "Celestia recolour" design was just weird, it felt more like it was added on to canonise fanart/kids and I hate that the show staff were too lazy/cowardly to confirm any same-sex/hetero ships because "eh, we'll just let the fans decide".

5139481
Yeah, Twilight's design and Luster Dawn were the only parts that I didn't like but it felt like a pre-Season 6 episode.

5139481
Wdym no same-sex/hetero ships were confirmed? CheesePie was pretty clear, and AppleDash was very obvious too.

CheesePie was clear, yes, but not AppleDash, YonaBar or FlutterCord. It was just "Well maybe they're together or maybe they're not. Eh, we're too lazy/cowardly to confirm it so we'll just let the fans decide".

Vaguely flirty subtext doesn't count as good LGBT representation. If it's not explicitly stated they're a couple, it's not good enough.

Obviously, I disagree with a lot of your ratings, but the ones I really don't understand are She's All Yak, The Last Crusade, The Summer Sun Setback, and the finale. She's All Yak was deathly cliche, true, but it was also really cute and it changed my favourite of the Student Six to Yona. The Last Crusade is kind of like Parental Glideance done right to me, because though the stories were very different, they were both situations in which the child was in the right, but here the parents actually learned that. Also, it was a pretty sweet sendoff to the crusaders (it wasn't really, but that's what it felt like). The Summer Sun Setback was just good all around. Finally Twilight's character development was acknowledged. Discord was funny as always. The interactions between the villains were great. The joke with Cozy using a key book to open the lock was hilarious. And the scene with Twilight raising the sun was done so well. As for the finale...well, I'll just quote what I wrote somewhere else.

The best part was Tempest.

Yeah...

Other than the villains being great, the awesome fight scenes, the emotional, heartwarming moments, Spike in the beginning of 26, actual consequences existing, Discord being comedic as always, the Endgame style sequence near the end of the second part, plenty of funny bits here and there...

Am I forgetting anything?

Oh yeah, the wendigos being remembered, the student six being involved without taking up too much screen time, CheesePie and AppleDash existing (it's not the best AJ ship, but it's the best RD ship), the great final song, the way things came full circle with Twilight at the end, etc.

So, no, in retrospect, Tempest wasn't the best thing about the finale.

Also, while I somewhat understand calling the premier eh, it is really good. Great humour, great villain, great set up, great conflict, etc.

Sure. Anyways, a lack of something good isn't a negative. And that's just a small detail either way. In terms of LGBTQ+ representation, it's not a small detail, but it is a small detail in the writing.

wow, you have some pretty strong feelings about the finale...

I'm just glad it's all done and I don't hate it :)

Also LyraBon was confirmed both in the background of a big mac problem and in a newspaper in the beginning of the last problem.

Btw, it's student councel, not school

I agree with you on the rating of The Ending of The End. The plot twist was lame as hell.

Background characters are not good enough LGBT representation either.
