Update on Textbook Soldier's rewrite! We're about halfway through the story, and things are going good. I like the way things are now better than before, but that's just me. Some of you may hate it. Here's what I'm cutting out (the big things so far).
- Shifting all the POV away from James for reasons
- Giving more realistic and genuine reactions from all involved
- Cutting out the random freakout breakdown from Chapter 5 where everyone thinks they're from a book
And that's mostly it. Most of what I've been doing is shifting the POV away from James and back towards all the Canterlot High girls. This decision came from an idea that I thought it'd be cool if the audience felt like they were from the same side of the girls. They don't know anything about James except what they read in the book, and I wanted everyone else to feel the same way. I dunno if that works for everyone, but I think it's gonna be cool if it does.
A few of the other things I'm doing is giving more insight into what the girls think. Since the POV is entirely them now, I want it to mean something. They have their opinions and all that and I want to show it.
Also when I was writing this story, I wasn't as experienced with reenacting and WW2 US Uniforms and I made some errors. Oopsies. Nothing you guys may have noticed, but I always try to make this story accurate to history. Actually, most of it is because I cringe when I know it's wrong. Sorry.
If any of you want to get a sneak peek of the rewrite once I get done with it or chat with me about Textbook Soldier, you can join the Textbook Solider Discord with this link. I'm always around if you have questions or want to chat.
Alright, I'll see y'all around. Later!
Will the original versions still be viewable for comparison? As a writer, I often like seeing multiple expressions of the same scene.

I can make them available to anyone who wants them! They'll probably be linked in the description and not listed as actual chapters, just because that gets messy and confusing, as my other stories show.

Noted. Thank you. I happen to like the James perspective shots for many of the same reasons that I like Captain America - seeing inside the man out of time is fascinating to me (that, and people often accuse me of being a man out of time with some merit, so I sympathize to a point). I would have been sad if I couldn't read them anymore.

I do too, and I enjoyed writing his point of view a lot. But I think, personally, the story works better with one point of view instead of several different ones, and that I can do more of what I want with James by taking his point of view out of the story. I hope it works. If it doesn't, oh well. We'll see what happens then.

Ah, the thrill of experimental writing. Nothing quite like it.

Oh yes. The terrifying feeling of wondering if it'll work or not.
To be fair that's also what I felt when uploading Textbook Soldier.
We'll see.
