There are usually sites for certain businesses where you buy shares of the company when they make a profit, depending on the percentage of shares you own, you do too. Most of them can be found online or bough while inquiring with the company, there is also an app on you phone I think.

The simplest way to think of it is: You buy part of their company, when they make money they owe some to you.
The more you own they more they owe.
