My Little Pony Season 9 News 05/16/2019 · 12:13pm May 16th, 2019

GOOD MORNING, FIMFICTION FANATICS!!! This is the Dramamaster829; Critic, Actor, Writer, Motivational Speaker, and Occasional Singer, keeping you up to date with the latest news for the final season of MLP! Now I know it's a little early to have an episode discussion blog as for those who've actually been paying attention I usually set these a day before the episode airs. However, due to a rather important venture I must attend to, thereby having to depart very 'early' in the morning to make the attendance, AND since I won't be near a computer for the whole weekend, I figured the time would be best to get through this discussion shortly before the upcoming story. In which case, it's the villains turn to have a spotlight moment once again during this season as we tackle a story entitled:

Frenemies

As we've suspected through several sources, Grogar deploys his Legion of Doom...

Meanwhile, at the Legion of Doom!!!

*Pause, clears throat* Ahem... As I was saying, Grogar deploys his... *Pause* Minions on a mission to become allies, which would imply they either 'have' to learn to get along with other or try to form an alliance with the enemy. Now I can understand Cozy Glow and Chrysalis, on one hand Chrysalis' shape-shifting ability has served her well before and the ponies buy into it 'every' time. While Cozy Glow, even if the ponies are skeptical since she 'did' try to take ALL the magic of Equestria to be the 'Queen' is known to use her manipulation tactics to a 'T' and will probably feign 'regret' in her actions in hopes of winning back the hearts of her own species. Now as for 'Tirek', they already know he's the bad guy and nobody is going to want to approach a hulking Centaur just released from prison knowing that he nearly destroyed their home. Now here's where the story takes a rather 'interesting' turn, depending on if you feel the same:

Apparently, Grogar's plan works a slight "too well" and all of a sudden the 'villains' almost become friends.

So I've been doing some back and forth thinking about this whole thing, whether the villains are actually starting to see eye-to-eye or if it's slowly dawning how contagious the ponies' ideals of 'friendship' in general are. After all, Grogar whom has made his long awaited appearance on the series brought these villains (And Sombra) together for a purpose. The initial purpose, if you will, that by working together can they defeat the Mane Six, dethrone Equestria's highest powers, and secure global domination over Equestria and beyond. The last thing Grogar would want is for 'acquaintances' to suddenly get along as it's very clear that this power-hungry goat has no interest in 'social bonding' experiences. Now I know I have a tendency to overthink on the simplest of plots, not as differently as most fans, but if we're not just looking for an episode written just for 'laughs' this may be the episode where we have some long-awaited backstories on these three, whom clearly have problems of their own.

Why do I always have to go first?

We know for certain that Tirek's first attempt to dominate Equestria was shared with his brother, Scorpan (Whom most will remember from 'Rescue at Nightmare Castle'), that together they would consume all the magic in the land and take over. But all that changes when Scorpan embraces the idea of 'friendship' and sharing the magic, rather than taking, suddenly gaining a new perspective. And when Tirek refused to cast aside his initial plans, it was Scorpan who ultimately betrayed his brother and left him at the mercy to the princesses where all the magic he took would be taken leaving him to rot in a cell (Course, he'd find a way to escape but that's besides the point). So you'd have to imagine if Tirek has deep down still felt the pain knowing that his own family turned on him and led him to be imprisoned. Now up till now, we've only seen a reference of his brother during this initial run of the show but perhaps if a flashback is involved to show what life was like when the two brothers were still together we may not feel bad for Tirek but perhaps we'd get an understanding of his drive for ultimate power (Some people will argue the comics did that, but that's not going to work for me because I don't read them to agree).

I don't have a problem; you're the one with the problem!

Let's face it: We all know that Chrysalis is already at a low point in her life. There was a time prior to her introduction when Chrysalis was one of the most terrifying villains the show introduced, so surprising because we weren't initially prepared to see a 'changeling' or much less have any idea they were roaming around these parts. But now everything for her suddenly took a downhill spiral with her kingdom destroyed, her minions turning against her, and her sanity steadily decreasing. The last time Chrysalis was offered a chance to embrace friendship, she cast it aside even as we kept asking ourselves 'What has she truly got to lose' since she herself is now someone's lackey. Because maybe deep down, whether she admits it or not, Chrysalis is a sad, lonely soul who works better when she's around others (Even if she's not the one giving orders like she used to).

As for Cozy Glow...

Golly Mister, sure I've schemed and manipulated my fellow classmates but I'm not so bad...

Yeah... No.

Let's face it, when it comes to this power-hungry little girl (Who'd make Megan from 'Drake and Josh' look tame)... We don't know anything about this filly. We don't know her backstory, we don't know if she has a family, if she's an orphan or lives in foster care, heck we don't even know 'why' she became evil in the first place. Sure Cozy Glow had been taking lessons of sort from Tirek when they were pen pals (Though I'm already seeing he's regretting it), but I can't help but feel Cozy's method goes beyond that circumstance as I feel her ignorance over the 'true' virtues of friendship extends to a point where she just broke. Since her return this season, Cozy has been trying to deploy her knowledge of friendship in getting her new allies to share something nice to each other but clearly this isn't working as well (But that's not going to stop her from trying). I would not be surprised if this is the episode where see Cozy Glow playing the biggest role in turning 'Frenemies' into... Friends...

NO!!! You will not submit to our enemy!

Yeah... This is not going to fly so well for Grogar, considering he spent a millennia plotting and scheming to exact his revenge after his rule over Equestria was taken from him (And not even by a Princess). Grogar assembled these villains in an effort to invoke the same strategy that the Mane Six have used to defeat every villain or 'Monster of the Week', though why he's allowed 'Cozy Glow' into the Legion of Doom...

Meanwhile, at the Legion of Doom!!!

DANG IT!!! I walked into that one...

*Clears throat* Ahem... Moving forward, Grogar assembled these villains to combine their powers to ultimate destroy their enemies. As mentioned previously, the last thing Grogar will allow is for his newly assembled 'team' to be 'actual' friends with the ponies much less with each other. Let's not forget that the last time a villain went against Grogar's orders, Grogar chose to let Sombra rot back in the shadows after he was disintegrated by the inner magic of the Mane Six (And without their elements) thereby leading us to assume he's 'never' coming back. Of course if Grogar is going to start setting another example to a villain who disobeys his lifetime goal, he's going to start running out of members to work for him... Unless this season introduces some new members (Though if it's another villain from the '80s', it might be rather late being it's the last season). To me this episode feels as if just when Tirek, Chrysalis, and Cozy Glow are about to learn the true meaning of 'friendship' Grogar is going to do whatever it takes to remind them who's side their truly on.

It's not like he's going to use his bells to force them to obey him against their will... Hmm...

But now comes the big question: What do YOU think? Be sure to leave a comment below at your earliest convenience.

Until next week, this is the Dramamaster829... Signing out!
