So, good news/bad news time.
Bad news is I didn't get lucky with the academic job market, so gonna be staying with my grad program another year instead. Good news, is that means I now have a finished dissertation basically and don't have as high as stress (beyond normal stress of teaching, research, etc.) and can have a bit more spare time to start thinking on the fic!
Regarding it, I have started working on trying to plot out what I kind of want to do with the second "arc", so to speak. Details are still WIP for now, but I do have a few broad goals I want to try and meet:
1) Better pacing. First arc was paced pretty quick (like, it took like two-three days overall to happen), and part of that was wanting to get it done to have a complete story in case grad school caused problems, but I do think it hurt things overall. Basically, I have a bad habit of having a few key scenes in mind but not so much the in-between that makes the big stuff matter.
2) Wider cast. Lots of the scenes were basically two, maybe three characters top. While per scene there still won't be a whole lot, I do want to start expanding the cast a little bit, maybe start playing around with some OCs, that kind of thing.
3) Tighten up characterization. I think it was a bit muddled in the first arc, not helped by bad pacing making the characters (particularly Trixie) feel a bit too erratic. Part of this is just growing pains, of course, but I do want to improve on the characters a bit to make their actions feel a bit more logical (in the sense there's a clear connection between thought and action) and not so plot-convenient.
So, we'll see how it goes as I start working out the details for the second arc, which I'm hoping to shift focus a bit and look at Luna and her own problems. The "princess from a 1000 years" ago thing I felt wasn't fully explored in the show as much as it could have been outside of Luna Eclipsed, so kind of want to play with that a bit, with Trixie to help guide her on being "cool" and "hip" with the "youths". Should be fun!
