The persona of Seth was born from the idea of writing fanfic about a girl who turned out to be a witch, and her witty cat from the point of view of a cat. This idea came to my mind when reviewing the old TV series 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch', and I always liked the way the Salem cat was portrayed in the series. So I thought - why would I not write Worm fanfic with a 15 year old Panacea, who had just discovered that she was a witch, because she was told about this by a talking cat that belonged to her father, who was a witch himself.

I pondered this idea for several weeks, imagining their interactions, dialogues and adventures together, right up to the moment I thought it would be fun to make them go to Equestria, where our beloved snarky healer would face magic and friendship full blown. It would be funny to see how she tries to make sense of everything that happens around and fails. As she would have progressed in her magical studies, and then became a real hero on Earth Bet.

But then I thought - how could they get there? How would they even know about Equestria? And I remembered that Salem was cursed and turned into a cat because of the crime of trying to take over the world. And why stop here? Why not put him in some distant place? Somewhere like Equestria. Where he will live until he meets Amelia's father and moves to Beth's Land.

And so he was. And I began to write his background, telling how he got there and why. It was then that the idea of his exile gave me parallels with another villain from another great series - Seth from Stargate. He also has to live long in exile in the primitive world. But I always thought that his character was lacking, he was too undeveloped, too simple, just a cliche villain, created for a short television episode and destined to die at the hands of the heroes.

It seemed to me that he could achieve more than just kill time, living like a hedonist. Why he did not try to do something over these thousands of years. Why he never tried to escape or conquer the Earth. He didn't even take all of these remaining technologies from Egypt.

After that, I decided to change everything and mix the stories of Salem and Seth into one. About how he escaped from Earth and arrived in Equestria, how he became a cat, and how he lived there for a thousand years, being an unwitting witness of its history.

Naturally, the major mean for transportation between the worlds in Equestria was the Enchanted Mirror, which was used by Sunset Shimmer and the Princess Twilight Sparkle in the Equestria Girls. And to get to this as early as possible, Seth must be in Canterlot Castle, where Princess Celestia lives. But such a creature could not get into the palace without being noticed by her. And she will never allow someone despicable to use such a dangerous artifact.

At that moment Cadence entered the scene, and he, who had become her pet, could now easily get into the castle and find a mirror. But he, of course, cannot know about it. He is not omniscient at all. So he must somehow find out about this, and we all know that the best time for this is when Celestia showed the mirror to Sunset Shimmer. So now he can go to Earth Bet.

But what about him being magical? How can he know magic? Maybe he never got his cat form right away, but was cursed into it, like Salem? And so Seth overtook the body of the unfortunate unicorn and became a wizard who soon botched the transformation spell and turned into a cat. And to make matter worse I took his voice from him. Because cats can't talk. And so Seth struggled while living like an ordinary domestic cat, waiting for a minute of opportunity.

And living so long, without any outside interference in the very peaceful world of Friendship and Magic, will surely have a huge impact on your mentality, inverting it and changing you for the better.

Thus, Seth became a more friendly and kind creature. Who treasured their peace and tranquility more than anything else.

But let's not forget about magic. He must regain his magic, because otherwise there would be no point. Thus, we have a cat in dire need of knowledge of magic, a grumpy magical student of Princess Celestia and a young alicorn filly, who has just received a magical horn. Let's mix them up and shake them a bit.

Bam! And we got ourselves 'For Want of a Nail' situation, with a cat in the role of a missing nail. And being so, he made waves, completely changing the story and characters.

Right at that moment I lost control of everything, because Sunset just showed up and said that 'To hell with Panacea, you have a better witch!'. And I could not help it. The story began to unfold on its own, and I was only its narrator.

So each of us just became a passenger on this trip. And I hope that we will enjoy this trip together.
