    Preview of things to come

Keep it together… keep it together… Rundown told himself for what must have been the eightieth time this hour. Thursday night had arrived and after slogging through his classes and managing to drag Quibble along in a timely manner, the two of them were now on the bus toward the South Canterlot Public library.

    Future Plans and Konsequences Lookback

Well here we are, Konsequences is finally finished. Never imagined I would invest so much into it and it would take this long. Given how much this has nagged at me over the years, I’d thought I’d make a little essay just to have some closure on the whole ordeal and maybe share some insights into the story.

Future Plans and Konsequences Lookback · 8:09pm Feb 10th, 2019

Well here we are, Konsequences is finally finished. Never imagined I would invest so much into it and it would take this long. Given how much this has nagged at me over the years, I’d thought I’d make a little essay just to have some closure on the whole ordeal and maybe share some insights into the story.

First though I want to announce some things.

I’m finally gonna get on making my own stories, which I should a chapter of one pretty soon.

But also recently I have taken over a story set in another of Shinzakura’s stories: 7DSJ: Broken Down in Sunny Town by The Quiet Party. I plan to continue the story for him. So stay tuned for that!

Now onto Konsequences. And I suggest you finish reading that before reading this.

This started back in 2014 - season 4 of the show - and originally this was call Kuriosity, now here we are 5 years later. So what the heck happened with this?

Originally I pitched the idea to Shinzakura in PM just as a story where it was a “what would happen if there was a half-human pony instead of a half-pony human?” From there came the issues of science and magic (AKA story rules established and we can’t just use “because magic” as an excuse).

So then sparked the idea to have a terrible fate of some kind happen, and thus lead into some kind of unwanted scenario for the protagonists involved. Now of course that terrible fate, upon looking back especially, is kinda out there when you consider what else was involved.

I’ll also say right now that writing this out and putting it like that makes me realize all the more how redonkulous this premise is.

At the time I had Doctor Who on the mind, and one episode in particular that I took inspiration from was “The Lazurus Experiment” in which a scientist makes a machine to make him young but with some monstrous results.

So what’s going in in AAG? Cross-species offspring is one of the biggest new developments in the universe, so I thought: What if an accident leads to a guy discovering the pony side of things but too much indulgence causes things to go wrong fast?

Thus led to the human magic stuff (which as established in side-stories is a Big Bad Evil), and also demi-god intervention. And given how Evil the stuff is, what’s to say it couldn’t force a seemingly impossibility through some unethical magical ways? Given how much we’ve seen how magic can be evil at a glance, what if we went further into the fine details?

I’ll be honest in saying including Faust and co. wasn’t easy, but I think with what I wanted to do and work with I did a good job. It gave me a chance to perhaps explore their relationship and also give Emme some development and look into. Especially given what was established already about her and her mysterious absence from the Bakemono side story.

Of course, things didn’t pan out. The first two chapter I got out pretty quick, but then came real life and also my own self-critique. I actually moved to South Korea during this time, and lemme tell you: it was a hectic time. I remember on the plane trying to do some writing, but upon looking back at the first chapters I realized they weren’t up to the standard I wanted. Things like using the Idiot Ball and kinda forcing the romance given how in the first version I wanted the main characters to fall in love first to have sort of a “rise and fall” deal. Also too how I felt like the social interactions with showing xenophobia and other stuff in the world were tacked on.

That led to me meandering around trying to re-edit the first chapters on and off, but also trying to perhaps expand things like out. However in the end things didn’t go that way, and I ultimately decided to start over from scratch so I could approach it from a new angle and lead into the main conflict of the story more naturally.

So I scrapped the “Kuriosity” and decided to focus on the “Konsequences.” I mean since the original idea was a half-human foal conceived from an accident, we could definitely have the latter be a theme throughout.

I made major changes like removing a few characters I made up, and had the protagonists already in a relationship so I could focus more on establishing who they are. The idea behind them was that they’re not the most likable, but at least maybe you could sympathize with them. I’ll also admit I’m a sucker for the “Jerk with a Heart of Gold” trope.

Speaking of characters, I will say it was fun coming up with backstory for Karyn, AKA Stout Spirit, AKA Carry On if you remember the first version of this. Originally I picked a legacy unicorn family that wasn’t really explored (with some guidance from Shinzakura so that we were really separating from the already established cast), and I ran with it. When it came to making them stand out differently, I wanted to a explore a pony family who wasn’t exactly in a pony mindset. So why not a foreign family? And with a legacy pony with a name like “Kimono” and a demi-god who happened to be there already, the pieces fell into place.

With all this, I was able to more explore some of the social interactions of ponies toward humans which was something I definitely wanted to explore back then. Now granted we had some stories/chapters come out since then that have explored it in AAG, but I stuck to my guns to hopefully give a unique spin. Especially how I set it in basically Ground Zero of where AAG’s main character conflict between DJ and Rarity began.

I could go on, but I think for now I wanted to get some of these off my chest. Who knows? Maybe I’ll share some more in some ways.

So what happens now with Konsequences and the characters? Well that’s up for fate to decide. I purposefully left it on a cliffhanger of sorts just because The Breaking Straw is going on, and Book 2 will be here soon.

At any rate. Thank you again Shinzakura for the opportunity and the others on his team for the support. Thanks to all who stuck around all these years and maybe those who found it. Here’s hoping for more AAG, but now I can finally move on from this.

Completing a story for so long certainly is an accomplishment, that's for sure.

But you think you're free from us?

Oh, you simple minded fool...THERE IS NO ESCAPING THE MADNESS:pinkiecrazy:
