Blame MrNumbers. As part of his rant against the state of clopfics on FiMfic, he took a swipe at RGRE. The backlash created a lot of curiosity around RGRE, which prompted a bunch of /mlp/ writers to clean up their greentexts and post them here.

This is both an important thing and if you talk about it the wrong way it sounds preachy? I don't care to preach or listen to preaching. I mean I think you can tell where I stand from the laborious discussions of consent in almost ALL of my clop stories but... come on. It's fiction.
